We had a rough start to the morning. Brendan had his appointment with the ophthalmologist today. After waiting almost an hour and a half, we finally went back to the exam room only to get the dilating eye drops and to be sent back to the waiting room for 25 minutes.

Brendan handled the wait pretty well.

The dilating drops worked quickly.

The diagnosis was a bit shocking though. His little eye scans from the pediatrician’s office and the preschool screening had led me to believe that he has slight myopia (nearsightness). When we went in, the doctor was saying they would find out today if he needed glasses now or if it was something that could wait until he really needed them, like for seeing in a classroom.
What they found though was that Brendan has severe hyperopia (farsightedness). He can not see objects in focus or detail at any distance. It is dizzying to read about it and realize how much this may have been affecting his life and development. His eyes and his brain have done so much to compensate, we just didn’t know. The doctor, nurses, and the optometrists all promised that Brendan is going to love his glasses and will have an awakening of vision.
I am excited for him, and sad at the same time.
We went for a glasses fitting right after the appointment and they should be ready Wednesday or Thursday next week.
Trevor and Gramma spent the morning together. I am so glad she was here to stay with Trevor so he didn’t have to be at the doctor’s all morning with us. They ended up taking a mile and a half long walk around the neighborhood!
Then tonight, Trevor got his haircut!
He did a really good job, with just a little squirming.

We were working on “freeze” and then get wiggles out in between snips. He had some really silly freeze faces.

The boys aren’t really in to dressing up, and it was a tough enough morning on Brendan. We just put on some cute holiday themed t-shirts and sat out on the driveway to pass out candy.

It was still hot outside, and there were some big groups of kids. Brendan got a box of Nerds from the neighbor and went around shaking and rattling it everywhere.

Trevor is doing his peanut butter cup dance.

We had some exhausted boys tonight. November is going to be a busy month with a lot of changes. We have to start by taking Gramma to the airport in the morning. It seems like she just got here!

This was a day that seemed to feel like it was three days long. It had so many parts to it. Most important was Brendan’s eye exam, and the surprising news about how badly he needs glasses, since he has been making such great progress without them! His ability to see better should open a whole new world to Brendan. Our amazing little Brendan will become even more amazing! 🙂
Trevor and I decided to take a “walk around the block”. The problem was that we passed by our turn because the “block” isn’t square, so we ended up walking a mile and a half to get to where I knew where we were to get home!! I carried Trevor part of the way, but he was trooper for a good part of it.
The boys were so cute in their Halloween shirts! They loved passing out candy and glo-sticks. Being here outside at night in 80 degrees was much better than the 30 degrees at home!
Which brings me to the fact that I am going home in the morning. 🙁 This is always a very difficult night for me, putting Trevor to bed for the last time for a long time and getting hugs and kisses from Brendan (last night he let me rock him and put him to bed). 🙂 Then there’s packing…
The time went very fast! It is always easier when I know when the next trip here will be, but now it seems it depends on so many things. I will miss everyone here very much, and want to say thank you for always making me feel so welcome and needed! I love you.
Lots of love and big hugs,
Gramma xxxx
Happy Halloween from the Lake House!! Am so looking forward to Brendan’s new glasses and how he responds to them!! Now, as Gramma says, he can become even more amazing!! Tiffanie, once again, I must warn you….count your children before Gramma boards her plane!! LOL!!! Prayers, hugs and love!!! 🙂
>> ” count your children before Gramma boards her plane!! LOL!!!” <<
🙂 🙂 😉 yeah, Brendan has already been "checked" enough !! 😉 😉 😉

It's November, Trainfest on the 8th and 9th, set-up on the 7th, and a sloop that needs a little more rigging.
