Year 8 – Week 1 – Day 6

Brendan’s liver ultrasound from August came back showing significant hepatic fibrosis. The Fontan operation that he had for his heart puts added pressure and increased blood flow on the liver and can cause long term stress, fibrosis, and benign nodules. But the hepatologist had never seen a Fontan patient this young with such significant fibrosis in his liver tissue. In order to better understand what was going on, they wanted to do an MRI.

Brendan waits patiently in the hospital with his new owl blanket.

The anesthesiologist uses gas to help him fall asleep so that they can put in an IV. The MRI has to be done under general anesthesia because there is NO WAY Brendan would hold still enough!

It seemed to go smoothly, and he wakes up for an orange popsicle.

He thought a long day at the hospital deserved Swedish meatballs and gravy at IKEA for dinner!

  1. Hoping and praying that they will figure out all of what’s going on with Brendan. He sure pops up with stuff that baffles the doctors! It would be better if they’d know right away what’s going on.
I know it will be a relief when you have all the answers, and especially what they’re going to do to make it better.
Love and hugs to the whole family!
    Gramma ♥️♥️♥️♥️
