Year 2 – Week 20 – Day 6 – A year has passed already!?

Today, March 12th, is the one year anniversary of Brendan’s biggest open heart surgery, the Bidirectional Glenn Shunt and Damus-Kaye-Stansel procedure. At the same time, they did a lung biopsy and a bronchial scope. I am just in complete disbelief that a year has passed already.

On March 12, 2012, we drove to the hospital not even knowing if the surgery was going to happen. It was a heavy debate because he was such a high risk case.

I could write all night about the emotions that well up as I made this video of his path from birth to today. I initially selected almost 400 pictures to use and had to whittle it down to 150 to keep it to a reasonable length. We are so proud of Brendan and what a fighter he is. Even having lived through it, I am amazed by this journey.

(sorry about the ad that pops up in the video, youtube put it there for me because of the song that I chose)

  1. Awww! What a great video. He has come so far. You go l’il B. Prayers and happy thoughts for much much more continued progress and handsome, smiley faces.

  2. I sat here crying through the entire video. I remember seeing the boys for the first time at 3 weeks old. It was heartbreaking to see Brendan in the hospital all hooked up to wires and machines, he was so tiny!
Look at him now!! He has gone through so much, fought so hard, defied the odds, and accomplished more than anyone thought he could…and he just keeps on going and going…he truly is like the little engine that could. And no matter what he was going through, there always seemed to be time for a smile.
I am so grateful that I was able to be there with you, Bill, and the boys throughout Brendan’s journey. There were times of fear, times of frustration, times of joy, and times of wonder. I watched you and Bill deal with it all, in amazement at how you managed to do it, with such love and devotion to your babies, and to each other. Yay, Tiffanie and Bill!!
Who would have thought that I would make 7 round trips to AZ in 11 months time? I miss the boys very much now that it is 3 months since I have seen them in person.
Thank you for putting so many wonderful pictures and videos on the blog every day.
So, Brendan, you just keep on amazing everyone with your courage, and your determination, and keep that sweet little spirit going, with the big smiles and silliness. Your Gramma loves you to pieces, and I am so proud of you!! Your “little brother” is pretty special, too! 🙂
All the love and hugs and kisses I can send,
    Gramma XOXO

  3. I had lunch with Erin and Caleb, while this finished loading, and it was waiting for me when I got home.
    BEAUTIFUL !!

  4. The video was AMAZING! And it makes the most recent pictures of Brendan all that more amazing too, to see him standing up and learning how to be naughty in his crib while studying his brother. Both boys have come so far, and you all have been through so much. The boys are very lucky, as are you both!
