For the second time, we didn’t get on our scheduled plane. Trevor got much worse as the evening went on last night and started the telltale barking cough of croup.
\nI put him to bed like normal and hoped that he would sleep well to help fight off the infection. But at 3am, he woke me up in a panic and he was struggling to breathe with a very loud raspy wheeze. Trying to be a calm mom, I tried everything I could to help him. We spent three long sessions in the bathroom steaming up the room until the hot water was all gone. We did several walks outside with Trevor bundled up like an ewok in my arms, but the cold air was too dry to help.
\nJust after 5am, I realized that none of my efforts were making any real improvements. I had to wake up Gramma and we took Trevor to the emergency room for a breathing treatment and some steroids to reduce the inflammation.
\nI never imagined that I would be sitting in a hospital room this trip, listening to alarms beeping and waiting an eternity for simple things.
\nThe breathing treatment made an instant difference but didn’t last. The oral steroid did seem to help, but I am nervous about the night.
\nTrevor was a miserable, tired, crabby wreck all day with a hair trigger on his meltdowns. This evening, he is all wound up and wanting to go nuts, but the more active he is, the more he wheezes. <\/p>\n

The ER doctor gave us documentation to help get our flight moved with no penalty or fare difference charges.
\nIf a bug is bad enough to send Trevor to the ER, we have to keep it away from Brendan. We are quarantining ourselves at Gramma’s now until Thursday afternoon.
\nBill and the nurses are doing great with Brendan and he is healthy. As much as I miss him and Bill, we have to try and hope that we can not put him at any more risk. <\/p>\n

Poor Trevor just trying to relax. He was very agitated and afraid all day.

Better in the evening, he discovered the fun of the beauty shop

Both meds he got in the ER this morning were stimulants so he was something else and couldn’t be still or comfortable. We are trying to keep him calm now.<\/p>\n

Brendan had a great day with Dad and a successful trach change. He got a lot of outside time and a long Christmas lights bike ride too!
