Week 8 – Day 3

Brendan continues to recover from his procedure and he was in his swing when we arrived at the hospital. He seemed a bit sore and irritable and his numbers reflected it. Bill and I both sat and held him for quite a while and that seemed to help him relax.

He is stable enough that they are moving forward with discharge training, he could come home this weekend, or at the latest on Monday. We have a lot of preparations to do! He will continue to be on oxygen, and he will require his pulse-ox meter to continue to monitor him. He will have his feeding tube in and will still get most of his milk that way. We also need to learn how to care for his ostomy.
He will have medications that can be administered through the feeding tube.

We will have home care nurse visits 2x a week and visits from Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapists, both from the hospital and the state early intervention program. We will have a 24×7 support system and probably 24×7 lack of sleep worrying about him at first! At least we will not have to make the 20 mile commute each day while sleep deprived.

Me and the boys

Trevor borrows Brendan’s swing. We are definitely going to have to buy one like this, he really likes it. It is different enough from the big one we have at home, it will be a nice compliment.

  1. Good Morning from the very windy East Coast, albeit there is no rain! Wow, coming home soon!! Your stomachs must be doing marathon flip-flops with anticipation! You will do just fine and so will Brendan! Being with his best buddy Trevor will definitely enhance his recovery! The pictures are wonderful. Hang in there…soon your family will be complete! Woo-Hoo!!!

  2. That is so exciting! To have him home for Christmas, to have both your babies at home and all be together there for Christmas, I am so happy so is Bobby. Brendan and Trevor have touched our hearts so much and so have you. We continue to pray everyday for them and I think God is working. I never would have guessed he’d be coming home as soon as Monday. We are so happy for your family. I can’t imagine the exaustion you guys feel. Don’t worry, we’ll keep praying. For the 2 of you and the 2 of them. Your whole family. I wonder what your dogs will think when you bring home another baby. It’s cute to think about, just because of your posting when you brought Trevor home. He sure is cute. They both are. Merry Christmas!!!
