Week 26 – Day 4 – Gramma’s Last Day

The bad news today is that I have a sore throat and a runny nose that started this afternoon. I was at the hospital when I noticed it. Bill started to feel it too. If we are getting sick, we have to stay away from Brendan. Trevor seems extra tired today too, so I am worried that he might be fighting the same thing. It is not what we needed to deal with. Brendan has been on an antibiotic and will continue for a while. So it is possible that we are getting whatever he had, or that he will be protected from what we have as long as it is not viral. I hope that we can fight this off quickly. Nothing is planned for Brendan this weekend, he is coasting until next week when they will make another attempt to switch him to a home vent.

The worst news is that Gramma has to get on a very early plane tomorrow morning and go home! Today’s post is just a bunch of pictures of her last day with the boys (until she gets another plane ticket to come back!)

There will be no Brendan pictures tomorrow so I am posting extras today.

Lounging!

He seemed comfortable when we got there

He peeked his eyes open enough to see us and gave us a little sleepy smile

Gramma’s smothering!

Oh silly Gramma

Gramma got to hold Brendan for a while

He had a comfy little nap

Trevor is only crabby when he wears his crabby clothes

Trevor got a lot of cuddle time in too

Gramma had to tell him she was going home tomorrow

Tummy Time Trevor video!

  1. There are no words to express the feelings I have experienced the past 7 weeks, while being so deeply involved with the dual lives that Tiffanie and Bill live every day with Trevor at home and Brendan in the hospital.
I am very grateful for the opportunity to spend so much time with Trevor, and the joy he gives me with our daily bubble baths, our walks with the stroller, feeding, dressing, playing, giggles….
I have been able to hold Brendan, and talk to him, and see how hard he struggles to get well. Every smile is a blessing, every obstacle he gets through is a miracle. He is the most courageous little boy I have ever seen. He has endured more than most people do in a lifetime, yet his little personality shines through, and his determination is amazing.
I probably sound like I am repeating what I have said before, but I am very proud of Tiffanie and Bill for their devotion to their babies. I thank them for all they do, for their continuing positive attitudes, and for all the love they show each other and their little boys.
I will miss them all as I return home tomorrow very early. I will leave behind a big piece of my heart. Until I return, I will be following the blog as everyone else does, waiting to see each day how the boys are doing.
Goodnight, my babies, I love you so very much.

  2. Cindy your post was so full of the warmth and love you have shared with your boys, daughter and son in law. What a wonderful family and daughter you have in Tiffany. I can’t imagine totally how heavy your heart is as you board today but as a grandmother I have a little idea. I know your Chicago children will be happy to see you when you return and I am sure you will be back as soon as you can. Tiffanie is most fortunate in having you for the past 7 weeks. When I saw that in your post I couldn’t believe it has been 7 weeks already.

Have a wonderful flight! God bless gramma’s like you

  3. Good evening from the East Coast! Oh boy, Gramma is leaving??!!!! Tiffanie, double check her luggage!!! She’s making room for Trevor (we saw that in previous pictures), but watch out…bet there’s room for Brendan and all his “stuff”, along with you and Bill! You see, she’s probably rented a plane just for family!!! Kidding aside…I recognize that this journey will be tough for all of you. Having Mom there with you was a blessing!! We are sending all kinds of hugs!! Prayers for Brendan’s continued healing and healing for all of you!! Love from the bottom of my heart and love from all the family!! Hugs and kisses!!! 🙂
