Year 2 – Week 1 – Day 7 – Halloween

Wrapping up this first week of the new year for the boys, all I can say is that I want a fresh start! It was a hard day. Brendan is still so-so, but not getting any worse. Trevor’s issues moved to the other end and liquid fire poop made his poor little butt red like a fire engine. He had to get multiple baths today to try to help him out. He was pretty miserable and it took two people to change his diaper and get him clean and smeared with diaper cream. He will love me years from now for sharing this info on the blog, of course. He hasn’t eaten anything new or unusual so I do not know what it the cause of this other than just being ill already.

I am feeling completely defeated and depleted. But just when you think that it can’t possibly get worse, it does. Our regular night nurse has an injured shoulder and can not work tonight. The nursing company found us a fill-in but she has never been here before so it will be interesting. Having any kind of help is better than trying to cover it ourselves.

Brendan does fine through the day if we stay on top of his breathing treatments. The nebulizer can connect straight in to his vent circuit so we can do them even when he is asleep and covered in sheet wrinkles.

He did sit up and play today, I think he is on the upswing from all of this. The Albuterol makes him a little silly too.

Even his crazy smile makes me feel better.

I didn’t take any pictures of Trevor today, so I grabbed a couple from his crib cam just now.

After dinner, he sat out on the porch with me and passed out some Halloween candy. There were not too many kids, but he really was mesmerized by kids in costumes. I think he really enjoyed it. We turned on the bubble machine that we got for portraits and the kids coming up to the house loved that. People were even taking pictures.

And now that they are both in bed and the day is done, I look back and realize that we can get through these days, we just do it. I mean, look how far we have come since last Halloween!

I had a Halloween picture in mind to take today, I will just have to do it tomorrow when everyone is feeling better!

  1. Happy Halloween! I wish I could be there to help. I know how much even a little bit of help can make a big difference when you are so tired and worn out. I hope the boys get better fast, and you can get a 7 night nurse shift going. We’re sending HUGE amounts of mental fortitude your way!

  2. Good evening from the really battered East Coast. The destruction and devastation is mind boggling. It’s Nov. 1st, just regained power, intermittent internet, and extremely intermittent cell phone usage,,,,so am taking advantage of this moment to check in….cousins Carrie and Michael are still without power. But all this pales when we read your blog. When I left off, the boys seemed to be over a hurdle, but that was just a blip!!?? What a week you have put in!! Many, many hugs!!! Again,as I have said before, I wish there was a way to package and sell “worry and exhaustion”…you would be millionaires!!! Am hoping that each day continues on an upward spiral!! Also hoping that you can obtain some resources…nurses, whatever….to just help you through these hurdles!! Just loved Trevor’s “crib” video. He is quite a character!! Hope the poops firm up for you too!! Last year’s Halloween pictures sure put things into perspective…….your boys are beautiful!!!! Prayers, big hugs and much love. 🙂
