Year 2 – Week 12 – Day 6 – Goodbye, Grandpa Jack

I feel an obligation to post a few pictures of the boys, so here they are. They do not have any idea that anything is different. Trevor just is teaching Brendan how to eat shapes from the shape sorter.

Mmmmm shapes

The boys had a good day, but the rest of us were deeply saddened to learn that Grandpa Jack passed away just before 8am this morning. He shocked everyone last spring when he got kicked out of the hospice home for being too healthy. The doctors had given him just a few days to live! He just kept right on going and amazing everyone with his will to live.
He was a generous, patient, and loving father and grandfather. He has had and will continue to have a huge impact on our lives and the lives of our boys. He will be greatly missed!

I went through a few archives I could find tonight and pulled out a small collection of photos to honor his memory.

  3. What a wonderful tribute to Grandpa Jack for the boys, and the rest of us, to have. Jack was a great man. I will never forget his endless story-telling, and great sense of humor. I’ve never known a more gracious man. I am grateful for the privilege of knowing him, and being able to call him “family”.
Goodbye, Jack. You will be missed.
Love and sincere condolences to the whole family, and extra kisses and hugs for Brendan and Trevor,

  4. When I looked at the screen to see if the blog had loaded, I saw Year 2-Week 12-Day 6 *Goodbye Grandpa Jack*, and the day became a sad one.
The next thing I “saw” was a memory, from 63, or 64 years ago, of a gray, cut stone building, and a window, and my Dad’s Father in bed, looking down at us from that window. The last words I remember him saying to Robert and I were, ” Be good boys”.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

  5. Uncle Rich and I send heartfelt condolances and our deepest sympathy to all of you! His passing marks the end of a huge chapter in all your lives!! May the comfort of knowing that Grandpa Jack is now in a beautiful place and at peace, help you through this difficult time. Hugs to Brendan and Trevor! Many, many hugs to all of you…ever in our prayers. With love!!
