Year 2 – Week 23 – Day 5

I know it is April Fool’s Day but I don’t have any good gags or jokes, it was just another busy and unusual day.

Because I needed more stress, Trevor has now figured out that he can get on the rocking chair and gets twisted in to these crazy pretzels trying to get down through the arm hole. He likes to rock like crazy and jump.

His ability to open containers has been useful too

Brendan picked up a puff off the ground and put it in his mouth

And he pulled it right back out

This is where the day gets interesting. About a week ago, I had contacted a person with an ad on craigslist selling about $200 worth of Peek-A-Block toys for $30. A few back and forth emails all week about where to meet up and we finally found a time and place today. We met at her mother’s house which just happens to be about 1/4 mile from Grandpa Jack’s old house in the same development. Weird!
I took Trevor with me and we met her and her two kids and picked up so much fun stuff for such a steal. A little friendly chatting about kids and the twins led to her revealing that her adorable six year old son was also a single ventricle heart defect survivor. His heart problem is different than Brendan’s but so similar in that he only had a functional left ventricle. He has had the same open heart surgeries that Brendan has had/will have.
What a strange coincidence!

One of the things we picked up was this “Incredi-cube” which is like the mothership of the Peek-A-Block world. There is a selection of interactive things to do with the blocks including a blinking and singing turntable on top. The boys went insane on it, laughing and sweeping blocks around. All three of the boys were having a great time!

By the time I got the camera, the two little boys had settled and were playing so nicely together.

Brendan was trying to kiss his reflection

And to top off a crazy day, Brendan pulls out a new trick. YAY Brendan!

Brendan is feeling better although I would say he is not quite back to himself. Hopefully another day or two and he will be fully adjusted to being off the vent and he can move forward with his speaking valve.

  1. Yay, Brendan!! You stood up all by yourself! I am so proud of you!
Trevor, I am proud of you, too! Every day it seems you come up with a new trick that you figure out all by yourself, too. Maybe it gets you into a little trouble sometimes, but it still shows off your creative thinking!
What a strange coincidence to connect with the lady on Craig’s list that not only has a mother who lives in Jack’s old neighborhood, but has a child with a similar heart defect as Brendan. It’s too bad you couldn’t have met her son to see how he is doing at his age.
Nice find on the blocks! I have never seen one like the big one they are playing with in the pictures.
I still can’t believe Brendan and how quickly he is progressing! I can’t wait for the blog every day, there’s always something new. There’s no doubt that it’s because the boys have the Mommy and Daddy that they do that they are both doing so well. Yay for Mommy and Daddy!!
    Lots of love to all,
    Gramma xxxx

  2. You go Brendan! That’s so awesome!
The girls had the monster cube and blocks too. It was hours of fun for all kids in the house here too. If you got the blocks that came with the cube, you will eventually be driven crazy by those songs!

  3. And….The Oscar for best movie soundtrack goes to – – – – – -:) 🙂 🙂 🙂
That was a *monumental milestone*, just passed 😮 😮 😮 🙂 🙂 🙂 and right on its heels, the next one, the passing of the ventilator’s final usage ! (( insert crossed fingers smilie here )) 🙂 Hip Hip Hooray !!! Brendan !!!
Hip Hip Hooray !!! Tiffanie and Bill !!

  4. You go Brendan, Mr. Mucle Man, those little really are working big time. Trevor in the rocking chair is so cute and his talent opening jugs is just to funny. Have had a setback with the staf infection and the strong antibiotics but think we are finally on the upswing again.
