Year 2 – Week 25 – Day 5

I have never been so glad for it to be Monday. It was nice to be able to talk to the right doctors. Having a history with Brendan is so helpful. You should just see the look on people’s faces when we try to “quickly summarize” his medical past.
We took him to see his pediatrician this afternoon and we finally have answers. Poor Brendan has a bad double ear infection.

He got to be in the Nemo room at the doctor’s office today

I am giving him a pep talk, he wasn’t thrilled to be sitting on the crinkle paper.

He distracted himself by playing with his oxygen tank

Bill kept Trevor entertained, he did such a good job waiting.

Then we had to head to an imaging place for a chest xray. That place was PACKED. The lobby was standing room only.

Brendan’s xray results were good. It showed a small patch of atelectasis in the left lower lung, which would help explain his oxygen needs and lower sats. They could not rule out infection but said there was no sign of pneumonia.
He has an antibiotic now for the ear infection that should also cover his lungs and trach. Hopefully within the next day or two, we will see a big improvement in his numbers.

On the way home, Trevor found a new toy in the car – the suction-on window shade

“Charge!!!”

Brendan was just glad to be all done.

Brendan played some blues guitar tonight to relax. I never knew the guitar was a wind instrument.

What do you call a fresh from the tub clean and naked baby with a broom? A Squeaky Sweeping Streaker! Say that three times fast!

  1. Poor Brendan. 🙁 Still, glad you got some answers and can take positive steps towards healing!

Shannon and I were just talking the other day about what we’ll do when K decides that his window shade in the car is a fun toy…

  2. So glad youfound out what is going on with Brendan and hope will feel better soon. He is such a trooper when he is ill. The picture of Trevor squeeky clean and his friend Mr. Broon is a classic.

  3. I call “a fresh from the tub clean and naked baby with a broom Adorable”! I call a baby who has a best friend who is a broom a little strange, but also adorable!!
I was so happy that you called to tell me about Brendan’s visit to the pediatrician. I think Dr. Curran and his baby-friendly demeanor can make everyone feel better. 🙂 It’s good for Trevor to go when he doesn’t have to have anything done.
I’m so glad that Brendan has a pretty normal condition just like lots of other babies, and it is not a setback in the great progress he has been making. With having 4 babies (and a few “loaners”), I have seen a few ear infections, and I’m surprised he was such a good boy about it! He is one tough little guy!
I’m sending one big “WHEWWW”!!! along with lots of love and hugs to all,
    Gramma

  4. Thrilled to hear that the cause of the fever is now known, and antibiotics are prescribed. Gramma is right, – – – ” He is one tough little guy! ” Go Brendan !!!
Wind instrument? naaaa, Brendan’s just composing some “tasteful” guitar music.;) 😉 🙂
Trevor, a streaking wizard should know, a “push broom” is not the best ride – – –
    no “buts” about it. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Loved the look on Li’l B’s face as you give him that “pep talk” 🙂 🙂

  5. Good afternoon from the east Coast!! I’ll double Gramma’s Whew!!!! So glad that Brendan has ears infections (normal parents would shutter at that!!) !! Soon to be fixed and feeling better!!! 🙂 Hope the rest of you escape any maladays’ brought on by Brendan’s special germs! Have been “webinar-ing” with the state of New Jersey, re: retiring!!!! Just took a break to check in with the boys!! So glad that I did! Now back to the government…what fun!!! Prayers, hugs and love!! 🙂

  6. Trevor is probably working on his broomstick skills to keep up with his little wizard cousin. Pretty soon, they will be talking Quidditch! That’s so rough for Brendan. Like others have said, I am glad it is a normal baby thing and not something specific to Brendan like an infection around his trach or something weird like that! Once those antibiotics get going, he’ll be back to himself soon! Another “milestone” down for Brendan – his first ear infection. May it be the only one!
