Year 3 – Week 22 – Day 3 – First Camping Trip!

We did it! We had our first successful camping trip. The only thing we forgot was this thing:

We also did not bring any extra formula for Brendan, so we had to leave first thing in the morning. Otherwise, we had everything we needed.

We camped in full-exposure scrubby desert this time. Next time, we will drive farther and get to prettier trees and cooler weather. Even though it was only upper 70’s in temperature, the sun was brutal. The boys did a good job wearing their hats, but even with sunscreen Trevor managed to get pink on his face and neck. He was outside so much!

Releasing the crazies!

Trevor LOVES the ramp and wants to run up and down over and over. He also likes to release the food truck to zoom down the hill

Going for a walk

Trevor says “Cactus are very sharp” – He had his first encounter with a small ball of cholla sticking in his hand. He managed very well though.

Trevor is going to start up the generator
322t10

We kept him slathered in sunscreen and he kept up his Burts Bees application
322t11

Brendan was stuck inside often while he had to be connected to his food pump
322b07

Brendan actually took a nap in the trailer. We didn’t even try to put Trevor in bed.

During some inside down time, the boys found a stash of stuffed animals. They played with an old favorite

Trevor cleaned up toys with tongs, it was a good game
322t16

This morning, Trevor slept in!
322t17

Brendan had a rough evening with what seemed to be tummy ache/gassiness and overstimulation, but he slept OK. He woke in a good mood

More ramp time!

Trevor is taking a really long nap, and Brendan is currently watching a documentary about snowy owls. 🙂
Bill and I are wiped out. It was a trip filled with tons of effort, some stress, some fun, and lots of adventure. We are ready for naps too!

  1. Wow…your first family camping trip, and no major problems, and it looks like the boys had a great time! I’m sure you and Bill are exhausted, but when you think about how amazing it is for this day to come…!!! 🙂
The pictures (other than a little line management) look like a regular family have a regular camping trip, and it is a joy to see. You worked so hard to make it all happen, and your little boys are so lucky that you do everything you do to give them all of these wonderful experiences.
So many cute pictures! I love the one of Trevor “starting the generator”! The boys are adorable in the jeep. And Brendan’s smiles are the best!!
Great blog! Beautiful family! Proud Gramma!
Lots of love and big hugs,
    Gramma xxxx

  2. Adorable! Sounds like the perfect trial run. And with all the things you have to remember to bring, I’d say you did an outstanding job 😀

  3. First family vacation! Woohoo! I’m glad that you have your two assistant campers, able to run generators and go off-roading in the Jeep. I’m sure that dusty campground looks all the more beautiful given the visit from the B&T landscape team. Can’t wait to see more trips like this once you guys recover from this one. =)

  4. Good morning from the soon to snow again, East Coast!! What a phenomenal trip!! I am exhausted just thinking about all the planning and final execution needed to make this journey!! Kudos to the master-planners!! What a wonderful experience for the boys!! I think Gramma is going to love her special rocks!! Prayers, hugs and love!!! 🙂

  5. 🙂 “The only thing we forgot was this thing:” 🙂
    🙂 That’s why even Astronauts, use check lists. 😉 😉 😉 🙂 🙂
    I’ve reached a point where I really need them ! 😮 😮 🙂
” first encounter with a small ball of cholla ” 😮
    ……Trevor, Cactus……. Cactus, Trevor……. 😉 😉
Got a kick out of the “Wild” wood blocks, looks like Trevor kept them under control. Jeep time was awesome!, ( I was wondering when the boys would, “take the Jeep into the wilderness” ) and, so apparently was “Ramp time” 🙂 🙂
Looks like you’ve got a couple of “Camping buddies” there…..let the fun begin!

  6. We had a blast on our first camping trip. It wasn’t an ideal spot, but it was close, and we had a good group of friends to visit with. Tiff and I learned many new things about camping with with twins that we’ll leverage next time to make everything a bit smoother. The boys did great on the long drives, and had a great time on their first real camping experience! We already have plans for our next big adventure with gramma’s house.
FYI: Today I purchased 5 more of “those things” so we wouldn’t be without one. (It’s an oxygen in-line swivel connector.)
