We are happy to report that Great-Grandma Bobbie has come through a very long but successful surgery and has a nice big plate and two screws on her leg bone now. She will not be allowed to bear weight for 2 whole months while she does rehab. The break was really bad.
We had big plans for this weekend. We are doing another 2-night camper adventure up in northern AZ. It means the difference between 110 and 84 degrees for a high, 90 vs 55 for the overnight low.
Bill was able to work a half day today so we could get on the road, we planned to be driving by 1PM. We decided to keep the boys up from napping and hope that they would nap in the car. Due to the nursing situation, my own tiredness, we were not as prepared as we hoped to be, so we didn’t get rolling until about 2:15PM.
Sleeping!! The little horseshoe pillows I made them even did the job well to keep them from folding in half while sleeping in a car seat.
We thought we had won the day!

Oh were we wrong. After driving for 3hrs, getting the trailer all set up, and starting to organize and feed the boys, we realized something was missing. Bill and I had used a big white laundry basket to put all of our stuff in, and it was still sitting happily on the bed at home. That is all of our clothes, undergarments, toiletries and medications. UGH. The boys’ stuff was all accounted for.
After discussing the possibility of Bill doing a round trip to get it, we determined that we had enough to get by if I could hit Walmart…. 34 miles away!! Trevor and I hit the road. We were lucky after all and within a mile of the trailer park, we found a Dollar general. I got shorts, tshirts, socks, underwear, a hairbrush, toothbrush, and deodorant for both of us. WHEW, disaster averted. What a mess!

Trevor immediately took to playing in the dirt, Brendan has a big problem with wanting to take off running to other trailers, he has to learn how to behave around parking lots.

Trevor helped Daddy to hook up the water lines.

What a very long day it was! When we left the hospital, Great-Grandma was stable, still coming out of anesthesia, and a bit confused. She does have a very long metal plate and several screws holding her femur bone so it heals straight. It will be a long recovery, with an uncertain outcome for her future ability to live at home. We will hope she surprises us all and does well in rehab. She did well through surgery.
It sounds like you had a very long day, too. I’m glad to hear that Dollar General saved the day. I’ll look forward to camping pictures tomorrow. 🙂
Lots of love and hugs,
Gramma xxxx
Good morning from the East Coast!! Whew!! Step 1 for Great-grandma!! Hoping each day brings more healing!! Thank goodness for dollar general stores!! Tiffanie and Bill…you are our heros!! We so admire you for the opportunities you offer for your children. It is exhausting just planning and executing a trip with family…then add on all the “extras” you need…good grief!! Hoping these trips will lead to the big one to IL and maybe some day to PA!!??? Enjoy your weekend!! Prayers for all your family!!! Hugs and much love!! 🙂
So happy to hear that, so far, things have gone well for Great-Grandma.
I’ve said my “thank you’s”, for prayers answered.
Hope her recovery is quicker than expected, and *her future ability to live at home* isn’t seriously effected.
” Bill and I had used a big white laundry basket to put all of our stuff in, and it was still sitting happily on the bed at home. ” 😮 😉 Life *IS* an adventure 🙂 Hope the rest of the weekend goes well.
