Year 3 – Week 51 – Day 4

Today was an assault on our senses, our emotions, and our self-confidence. The boys were in rare form today and could not be in the same room together without fighting and crying and hitting and throwing. They could not be in different rooms without screaming because they wanted what the other one had.
Bill had the day off of work for the holiday and did his best to give me some down time, but it was just that kind of crazy day.

I was about ready to have a meltdown from all the noise and misbehavior when I looked at the clock and realized that I was late for Brendan’s school meeting. I raced over there but was so mentally unprepared to deal with it all.
We always try to treat Brendan like the loveable boy that he is. We don’t see trachs and tubes and problems, we just see an amazing little guy. To do their job, the school does detailed evaluations and they quantify, qualify, label, and score all of Brendan’s deficiencies. He qualifies as between mild and moderate developmental delays in most areas like gross motor skills, social skills, and cognitive development. Obviously he has a severe delay in speech.
Even though he qualifies to attend their program, we have decided that it is too dangerous for him to start at school right as we enter the winter with cold/flu season.
He will be getting 1hr a week with a preschool teacher in home instead of 7hrs a week in the classroom, but we can continue to have OT/PT/Speech and feeding therapy services as well in home.
Come Spring, he can be re-evaluated and maybe have some classroom time.
I was just so depressed leaving the meeting, filling out a million forms, dealing with so many specialists. All of the scoring and tests and expectations we were going over and where he falls short just rubs a raw spot in my confidence. Trevor isn’t meeting many of the things they were talking about either. His refusing to potty train is frustrating too!

Pile on a heaping helping of wound up craziness. Here’s a free sample. Watch out for your volume.

Year 3 – Week 51 – Day 3

The B’s were having some quiet time this afternoon…

So I took Trevor to the grocery store. I forgot that the birthday stash was still in the back of the van and when we went to load the groceries, he saw the cement truck.

He reluctantly got in the car seat and kept working on me that he needed the truck. I missed all of his best arguments, but I really loved his “Happy Face” so I had to record it.

Since the cement truck was from Gramma, we had to call and see if it was OK for him to have it now. She said go ahead! He was one happy boy. He checked the engine, gave it a tune up, gassed it up, and was making all the best sound effects while he built a “new sidewalk”.

He didn’t want to share!

He did let Brendan touch it.

Not that Brendan was left out. He got a logging truck like the one that he loves in his iPad app.

He wanted whichever truck was in Trevor’s hands.

Happy dance!

These super silly boys had fun with their early birthday presents. (Turn down volume after last vid!)

When I was putting Trevor to bed tonight (and he did NOT want to go), he said, “Mommy, I am not a good boy.”
I said, “Why, Trevor?”
“I am a sad boy. Rock me.”

How does he come up with this stuff? 🙂

Year 3 – Week 51 – Day 2

Bill left last night to spend the weekend in Parker, AZ for the annual off-road racing campout. So it figures that Brendan is a total stinker and keeps me up until almost 1:00am with his shenanigans. Then Trevor was up at 5am!

I totally appreciate Marcia coming over to hang out with us this morning. I was able to get a truck load of laundry done and work on some cleaning and moving furniture. We finally sold the sofa from the trailer! Yay! It won’t be taking up so much room in my living room any more.

The boys were all wound up and crazy today. Instead of fighting to try to get them to nap, I decided to meet friends at the Hall of Flame and just skip their nap for them! When your friends live so far across town that it takes an hour or more to get there, they might as well live in a different state. It is hard to plan to get together. It was good to see them all today and the boys had a great time with some friends their age.

Of course I brought the wrong camera for this low light place, and capturing four kids together was nearly impossible.

They are fascinated with the washing machine now. They will hold their lights and look in and watch the wash for almost the whole cycle.

The boys were super tired the rest of the day but they handled it well and were willing to watch TV while I cleaned and folded laundry.
Brendan is starting to show signs of hunger and is asking for fruit pouches to eat now. He took bites of pretzel today, and chewed bites off of a chicken leg! Go Brendan! He is really making progress now!

I am totally exhausted and I hope the boys SLEEP!
