Year 7 – Week 23 – Day 4

Finishing up the month of March with a bunch of ‘this and that’.

March 20 – We scored another Lego haul on craigslist. We’ve sorted through and pulled out a couple of big old sets like a classic 9V train. It is like a treasure hunt finding the pieces.

March 25 – Bill took just Trevor to the bike park for some exercise. Trevor is really getting so good on his bike. Brendan just needs his legs to get a bit longer!

The bike park is such a neat place to ride!

March 27 – Trevor showing off that he can drag in both garbage cans at once. I am impressed. They are pretty heavy.

March 29 – I got invited to the school for a special assembly and I was told Trevor was getting an award!

The new principal started a monthly Character Award program. The staff has to nominate the kids for each month’s theme and write a letter of recommendation. Two kids from each grade level are selected and they win a certificate. Here is the whole long video. Trevor was selected for showing outstanding empathy.

I am proud of him!

March 30 – We went to a birthday party for Blake at BounceU and this seems to be the only picture I took the whole time we were there.

March 31 – We went to Tucson Speedway for a special Egg Hunt event. The hunt was a bit of a bust but the boys did get a few eggs signed by the racers.

We booked a night at an RV park with a nice pool so we could cool down after the egg hunt. But we didn’t know until we were all suited up and sunscreened and standing at the pool gate that the pool was closed for maintenance. UGH.

We got a treat at the Baskin Robbins near by and called it a day!

Year 7 – Week 21 – Day 4

Luke Days Air Show! I had not been to a Luke Days since I took Erin in 2001 or 2002, I forget. It has grown quite a bit since then! We had to park a few miles away in some fields and they had a huge fleet of school buses shuttling people to the base.

Walking through a C-130

It was spread out, I am glad we brought the wagon for Brendan.

Not just planes

Headed for the C-5 Galaxy

There were lots of demonstrations and tons of big fireballs. I always put my camera down at the wrong time and missed all of the explosions.

The boys didn’t give a crap about the fire or jets once they saw that there was a little carnival with bouncy houses.

This one was really fast!

Really really fast!

Brendan panicked and tried to slow down. He ended up rubbing off a nice deep chunk of skin on his elbow from the friction. OUCH! Bill had to take him to the first aid station. Outside of having the painful owie and getting it treated, he actually thought it was cool to be treated by the air force medics. He showed off all of his scars too.

Trevor went on this swing ride at least four times while the jets zoomed overhead with their huge booms.

Without Brendan, he had to ride with all different random partners.

Running back from potty break while I held his place in line

We waited a long time for this ride, but then Trevor wasn’t really heavy enough to get his feet to touch the trampoline. It was disappointing.

We left shortly before the Blue Angels were set to perform. It took about 40 minutes to get back to the car on the bus. I am so glad we chose to go, I heard that it was 4-5 hours of waiting after the Blue Angels to get shuttled to the parking lot!! YIKES!! I understand over 400,000 people attended the air show over two days. WOW

Year 7 – Week 21 – Day 1

We didn’t get enough bugs on Sunday, so we decided to try Butterfly Wonderland. Going right when they open on a weekday was the key. For about 15 minutes, we had the place to ourselves.

The discovered the koi pond

The koi were very “talkative”

This is how we like it! No people!

We learned the koi were so friendly because they were begging. An employee came around and gave the boys a handful of koi-chow.

Bubbles of thanks

It made Trevor’s day when he found a potato bug on the sidewalk and he was able to rescue it

The have more than butterflies on display

Silly grasshoppers

There is a nice large reptile and amphibian exhibit that was added since we visited the last time.

We had to do another round through the butterfly atrium.

Trevor looked right as the one on Brendan’s shoulder flew off

Butter hat!

Cuties!

The very serious caterpillar

Trevor found a hat to match his shirt!

We ended up getting the annual pass for the butterflies. It will be nice to go back a lot during cooler weather.
