Year 8 – Week 1 – Day 7

Happy Halloween!

Trevor declined to have his picture taken, even though he had a really cool SWAT cop costume.

Brendan wanted to be Harry Potter. He is not able to see well enough to remove his glasses for the costume, so we had to just attach the round Harry Potter glasses on top. He wouldn’t go without them. He has Hedwig and everything!

Don’t forget the scar!

Year 8 – Week 1 – Day 6

Brendan’s liver ultrasound from August came back showing significant hepatic fibrosis. The Fontan operation that he had for his heart puts added pressure and increased blood flow on the liver and can cause long term stress, fibrosis, and benign nodules. But the hepatologist had never seen a Fontan patient this young with such significant fibrosis in his liver tissue. In order to better understand what was going on, they wanted to do an MRI.

Brendan waits patiently in the hospital with his new owl blanket.

The anesthesiologist uses gas to help him fall asleep so that they can put in an IV. The MRI has to be done under general anesthesia because there is NO WAY Brendan would hold still enough!

It seemed to go smoothly, and he wakes up for an orange popsicle.

He thought a long day at the hospital deserved Swedish meatballs and gravy at IKEA for dinner!

Year 8 – Week 1 – Day 4

For a special birthday trip, we decided to just have a day at the beach. The closest beach to us is in Mexico! We packed up and headed for a couple of nights in Rocky Point. Our friend Eric keeps his trailer down there, so we didn’t have to haul our own. Thanks Eric!

It was the perfect day to be at the beach – great temperature and not a lot of people. We started early in the morning when the tide was all the way out.

The sun was coming up on the rocky reef area

Brendan found the first little hermit crab

A cute couple of lumpy arm crabs

I was so excited to go tide-pooling with the boys. We were not disappointed. It was such a cool place to explore.

The rocky beach had a lot of suprises.

You had to watch your step! Brendan is standing!

Another cute little hermit

The shelf went out really far

Like walking on water!

Neat little chiton

An enormous school of little fishes followed us around!

Crab!

Crabby little crab!

Serpent star fish

Trevor is so taken by cute little animals. He wants every one for a pet.

We took a break and cleaned up for lunch in the trailer. Then we came back to the water again in the afternoon when the tide was way in.

Cute sandy little booty!

Throwing sand is fun

The tide was way up on the sand so there was a fun place to play in the waves.

Like two little seals on the beach

After hours of play, we took another break and came back for sunset

Back in the States, this is in the town of Why, Arizona

Cool mural

It was such a smooth and fun trip. We will definitely be going again!
