Year 9 – Week 1 – Day 7 – Happy Halloween!

Brendan had an unusual costume request this year. It was not something we were going to go to a store to find. He likes a game called “Dark Deception” which is kind of like Pac-Man in first person mixed with a creepy slasher movie. He loves horror games and jump scares!

He wanted to be a “Dread Ducky” which looks like a rotten rubber duck with human legs, and it has a hinged jaw that opens to reveal a smaller toothy duck that bites like a xenomorph from “Alien”. Here are some screenshots from the game.

Our favorite material for construction is a collection of bandit signs. You know the illegal signs on the street corners that advertise discount mattresses or work from home schemes? They are made out of a sturdy lightweight material called coroplast or corrugated plastic.

I made the skeleton of coroplast and then used yellow and orange duct tape for some finishing and painters tape for support. Foam core teeth and hot glue!

Then it was ready for papier mache for strength

Spray painting the body

Mini duck is just a wad of tape with papier mache

Done!

Trevor wanted to be a riot/swat cop because he loves the gear and especially the shield. Bill made him a cool shield out of foam core.

The costume parade at school was fun! Lots of kids loved Trevor’s shield!

The kids do a lap around the whole block around the school. That was a long way for B to walk in a very bulky costume. It wasn’t super heavy, but it was heavy for him!

He got lots of cheers.

We only trick-or-treated a few houses, but we passed out candy and Brendan scared people passing by.

Trevor’s costume came out super cool too!

The ghost is under arrest!

Bill installed another of Trevor’s birthday presents. Some cool lights for his bike!

And to finish up, here is Brendan’s Lego version of Dread Ducky! Happy Halloween!
