Year 8 – Week 52 – Day 3

The October Lego Creative Crew meeting was, of course, Halloween themed.

Trevor came along to dive in to the regular area while Brendan went to class.

They really do teach the kids some advanced building techniques. This month, they will be building Halloween pumpkins, but learning how to build spheres out of Lego bricks.

nom nom

There was a little scavenger hunt to gather all the pieces to build little ghosts too. Brendan gets to take home his pumpkin creation!

Trevor tries to stack as many rubbery Lego bricks as possible so he can crash them down

Brendan found big pools of his favorite color!

You can’t tell me this laugh is not infectious

Year 8 – Week 51 – Day 2

For our last day in the bay area, I found a good deal on Groupon for a whale watching boat ride. The boat dock was right out of the gate of the RV park.

This is the first time on a real boat!

Passing the big refinery near the RV park

They were pretty excited

Trevor really enjoyed the wake and the speed

See the whales? We didn’t have any amazing breaching or close sightings. We saw some tails and waterspouts at a distance, including a mom and calf.

We were followed around by a pod of dolphins

Trevor had a great time, and no seasickness

Brendan was done, wind and sun and excitement

Trevor’s feet show he was exhausted too

Back at the trailer, we were playing with weaving sea kelp from the beach! We have a long drive home after an amazing trip.

Year 8 – Week 51 – Day 1

Brendan has been asking to go see the Golden Gate Bridge for some time. I think it started when he saw the movie “Big Hero 6” but I know he sees the bridge a lot in other movies and videos.

Driving around San Francisco in the big truck was … interesting. There was no place to park anywhere! We ended up finding a parking lot for a little trail through the park that went to the bridge.

This bent piece of pillar is on display to show the effect of earthquakes and to talk about how the bridge has been improved over the years to withstand earthquakes and wind.

Getting to the plaza where we can get up to the road

Nothing went according to plan today. We had already driven around like crazy trying to find a place to eat, but parking was impossible or the wait times were bad. We were about to walk quite a ways on an empty stomach. This little snack stop was our only option, so $20 for two cookies and a bottle of water later…

Here we go

The bridge was pretty busy with pedestrians and tons of people on rented bikes. We found out that the whole area was prepping for “Fleet Week” with naval boat tours and air shows. The Blue Angels were practicing for the weekend air show.

A low LOUD fly-by

Walking to dinner in the evening, Trevor found this enormous leaf!

He named it Leafy and he is taking it home
