Year 9 – Week 46 – Day 4

“Chef B” has been wanting to make cheesecake for a long time, and we finally set aside some time to do it. After we made and posted one to Facebook, he got special requests from friends wanting to buy one!

He worked really hard on these. He had to sit and take some “leg breaks” when he got tired. I helped with the heavy lifting.

He rolled out and crushed his graham crackers

He cracked all of his eggs

Getting the cream cheese out of the package is tough! We used NINE 8oz packages of cream cheese today.

Our turtle cheesecake uses some sweetened condensed milk

And regular sugar

He measured out his vanilla extract

Even though we used whole pecans dipped in melted chocolate on top, he also hammered up a bunch of pecans into bits to dust the top.

Putting on the finishing touches with the caramel, chocolate chips and pecans on top!

He was exhausted!

Now that he has made six turtle supreme cheesecakes, he wants to move on to do something different!

Our window herbs are growing nicely!

While Brendan cooks, Trevor gets to babysit the dog!

Year 9 – Week 37 – Day 2

Chef B strikes again, this time he wanted to cook something “really fancy and cool with lots of cutting”. He wants to try everything he can and use all the tools.

His favorite thing is to cut stuff up with a wire egg slicer but that wasn’t going to work with all of these fresh vegetables. He got to try using the mandolin for the first time.

There is a lot of chopping and cutting and dicing and slicing to do!

Definitely cooking with all the colors! He kept stealing pieces of raw onion. He loves it! He even loves onion breath, he says the stronger the better!

Very serious about hot pans

We used all fresh herbs in this recipe. Brendan loved the smell of basil and parsley but he did not like thyme.

I love a chef that cooks in pajamas. It is his uniform.

We kept chanting “Eggplant, Yellow, Green, Red” as we layered in all of the slices.

All those fresh herbs and olive oil for on top

Ready for oven!

Chef B’s first ratatouille, just like in the movie! It was amazing!

Year 9 – Week 37 – Day 1 – Happy 4th of July! (Boys & Trooper Portrait Day!)

There is nothing in our house very holiday about this holiday. Our trip to Illinois was cancelled due to Covid19. Our camping trip was cancelled due to forest fires everywhere in the state. Bill had the week off of work for travel and took it anyway to enjoy some time with the family and just rest and/or get some projects done.
We didn’t cook anything special. But we are all healthy and our air conditioning works, so there is little to complain about!

I set up a micro studio in the living room in order to get pictures with the boys before Trooper got too big!

We have been practicing sitting in the basket, but I didn’t have to work too hard, because he kind of liked it!

It is a good thing I got done with the basket quickly, Trooper grew 8lbs just since we brought him home! At 27.6lbs now, Trevor can no longer lift him up!
