Year 3 – Week 15 – Day 3

Some days really get off on the wrong foot. Brendan and Trevor both slept through the night, once Brendan was in bed after 11pm. When Bill is not home and I am sleeping in the living room, Eins gets nervous and was in and out of the dog door and barking at everything in sight all night. Combined with the beeps and clicks and noise of Brendan’s machines, I got just a few hours of actual sleep again.

It seemed like the morning would be OK. The boys both woke up with smiles. But after breakfast, they just wanted to have it out with each other. For Brendan’s first food of the day, I put him in his crib with an iGuy. He’d be safe from Trevor and he would stay calm while eating.
30 minutes later, Brendan throws up everywhere. I move him out of the puddles and strip him and start to gather up the blankets that were hit. His diaper is wet all over the outside, so I go to change it… and he pees all over the other side of the bed where I had just moved all the stuff to stay dry.
I give him a sponge bath with warm soapy towels and get him dressed in fresh clothes and put him on the floor. Then I strip the sheets off the bed. I pick up the fresh sheets and they are all wet!! Brendan is sitting in a big slimy puddle. He had managed to open the med port on his food line and so formula plus all of the contents of his stomach were draining on to the floor.
Another sponge bath, another new outfit, another set of crib sheets, lots of laundry later.. it was only 10am.
Bill made it home safely just before noon and I was glad for the help!

The rest of the day didn’t go as bad as the morning.

I have a series of pictures from right after Bill washed his sleeping bag and layed it out on the floor. It turned in to a challenge ring and the boys had a big pillow fight. Pillow fight to them does not mean hitting each other with pillows, it means who can control the most pillows and keep the other from touching them.

I can’t wait to sleep in my bed tonight. My pillow is calling me already.

Year 3 – Week 15 – Day 2

With Bill being away last night and tonight for some camping and offroad racing, it would have been just me and the boys all day. I am very happy that Brendan’s nurse Vanessa worked an extra shift to help me out today and that Tammy came by in the evening to help me get through bath and bedtime routines. I can’t be in two rooms at once!

Brendan and Vanessa took a really long walk and ended up exploring every inch of Bailey’s house and visiting Maggie Moo. On a whim, I decided to run Trevor over to the zoo to try to burn his energy off. That’s the perk to being members!

We’ve seen everything several times, and we only had an hour and a half, so I just let him lead the way.
315t04

Big noodle? Not sure of its purpose at the zoo, but I guess it is supposed to make you want mac and cheese.
315t05

Trevor said, “Oh loooook, Zebras eats rocks”
315t06

He says “Merry-go-round” very well, he wanted to ride.
315t07

315t08

He caught an escaped alligator!
315t09

Brendan wasn’t too impressed with curly fries. He passed them back to Trevor after a few experimental licks.

He did kind of like the scones that Tammy brought

The boys enjoyed having company tonight. Thanks very much, Tammy, for all of your help! As of this moment, 10:34PM, Brendan is lying in his bed awake and still fighting going to sleep. His eyes keep drooping but he is sure he isn’t tired.
After about 3hrs of sleep for me last night, I sure hope we have a solid night tonight. I won’t have a nurse to save me in the morning with a big cup of coffee!

Year 3 – Week 15 – Day 1

Trevor had a very off day today. He was just frustrated and quick tempered and LOUD. It made the doctor’s appointment this morning quite a task.
Neither boy wanted to cooperate.
315bt01

The meeting with the doctor was so frustrating and embarrassing. The boys were so loud, raucous, getting in to everything, touching what they shouldn’t, crawling on the floor, screaming if I put them in the stroller.. out of control. I simply couldn’t have a conversation with the doctor. I could barely hear myself talking.

In the end, it comes down to “no changes” for Brendan for now. His pulmonologist is happy with his progress and wants to keep going on the ventilator at night to help him get good rest.
He might be able to get off the vent after we see her next time in May.
I was glad to be heading home, my head pounding.
315bt02

After lunch and naps, I tried to get them to play with shaved ice.
315bt03

It entertained for a couple of minutes and then everything started to fall apart.
315b01

I tried to divide up trucks so that they each had the same kinds.
Brendan was having a total conniption because he wanted the green truck that Trevor had. Trevor would scream if I tried to give it to Brendan.
315bt04

Trevor was finally distracted by something else, Brendan won.
315b02

He gave Trevor all of the rest of his trucks, he only wanted the green one.
315bt05

After work, Bill took Trevor to the park to try to help him run off some steam.
315t01

Brendan and I got some nice one on one time in the kitchen. He made baggie banana muffins. We peeled some really brown bananas and Brendan got to help mash them. Stomp stomp!
315b03

Time to add eggs
315b04

All the ingredients are in, time to shake, smoosh, and mix!
315b05

“I am your little Bren-muffin!”
315b06

Brendan was actually a great helper. To finish the muffins, we cut a little corner off the bag and squeezed the batter in to the cups.
315b07

Trevor gets to try one
315t02

Yum face!
315t03

They turned out really well, but very sweet. The recipe suggested glazing, but they definitely did not need it, the glaze was too much.
We got to see Beth and Glenna again tonight for a short visit. I am glad they were able to come by again. I hope they all have a safe flight home to their igloos!
