Year 4 – Week 3 – Day 2

Baking with Brendan and Trevor

We had three spotty soft bananas and Trevor asked if we could bake a cake, so we made muffins. (I think he wanted more birthday cake)

First we peeled bananas.

We cut the corner of the bag and squeeze it into the muffin pan. (Too messy to do and photo at the same time). Then the baking inspectors come and verify everything is good and sign off on the permits.

These would we cuter with clean magnifying glasses. 🙂

Trevor really likes baking and loved the batter, but then he hated the muffins when they were done. I thought they were really yummy! Brendan wore his glasses here and there today, he likes to pull them off.
He didn’t eat the muffins either.

Later the boys made “mac and roni” for dinner and both ate noodles.

Year 4 – Week 3 – Day 1

We were in need of some family time and a little adventure. We wanted to do a little overnight camping trip, but the weather at our camping site would have been in the low 30’s or colder overnight. We decided yesterday to switch it up and just do a day trip to the Grand Canyon!

The boys were a little fidgety in the car, but they did well. They were happy when we got there!

Zoomed in
403bt02

We had miles of scenic beauty to take in…
403bt03

…and they were more interested in the dirt

Oops, he fell asleep right in the middle of his mustard pretzels
403b06

I had to make Trevor a little tent to keep the sun out of his eyes
403t05

We stopped at a rest stop called “Sunset Point” right at sunset. The sunset was unremarkable though.
403bt08

403bt09

We tried throughout the day to get Brendan to wear his glasses. He will happily wear them without the strap but when they start to slide, he takes them off. I got him to wear the strap tonight by bribing him with sips of beer!! Then he enjoyed a nice book.

The boys got to bed pretty late, so they had better sleep in!!!

Year 4 – Week 2 – Day 7

I have a ton of stuff today. The summer sizzle is finally over and it is a huge relief. Getting outside is a powerful tool for managing these boys myself. This morning we scouted playgrounds. We played at two and did a drive-by on two more.

This was today’s favorite, the only thing it was lacking was shade.

We had the whole place to ourselves once the maintenance crew pulled away. They keep this place spotless, and the sand was even all raked and pretty
402b09

Trevor pointed at the big boulder and said, “That rock is from Arizona” 😀 😀
402t13

They loved the bouncy bridge and kept coming back to it.
402bt20

The video quality on this is poor, but there is a lot to love in this video! Silly boys!

We picked up Brendan’s glasses today. I will apologize now to future Brendan. We had to pick function over fashion. These are called Miraflex glasses. They are super malleable, safe and durable. They are hard to break and were highly recommended by his eye doctor. The color and shape selection was scary.

Brendan wanted no part of them initially. I had to go next door and get him a Sprite at McD’s to distract him.
402b10

“This isn’t frozen coke!”
402b11

Bill tried to talk him in to wearing them.
402b12

He definitely seems to notice the difference in his vision when he has them on. His expressions are pretty funny. But he HATES the strap that will hold them in place. Without it, the glasses just slide off too easily. He would wear them for a few minutes at a time and then pull them off. It will just take some getting used to.
402b13

He is still my adorable silly Brendan

This will be a big adjustment for the whole family getting used to his new look and taking care of his glasses. We have a little adventure prepared for tomorrow!
