Week 10 – Day 5 – New Year’s Eve!

The last day of 2011, what a seriously eventful year. On New Years Eve last year, we weren’t even sure we would be having a baby, let alone two babies, and certainly not such a complicated start to their new little lives. 2012 is going to be exciting, life is going to be so different. By New Year’s Eve next year, we could be chasing down two little walking monsters!

Last night Brendan had an amazing night. He didn’t cry once. He woke up several times but was comfortable and alert. We set up the cool projection mobile over the bed and he really got caught up looking at the lights. I think he saved up all the crying for the morning, because he has been a handful all day and has just settled down for a nap.

We did get him comfortable in his swing for a while

It just didn’t last too long

Trevor is spending more and more time awake, and getting plenty of exercise time. He is getting pretty strong with his head control.

The boys in bed with their cool mobile – The mobile would not attach to the pack & play, so we have it setup on my camera’s tripod.

We hope everyone has a safe New Year’s Eve!

Week 10 – Day 4

Happy Friday!

Just a few pictures to share from tonight, nothing new otherwise.

Brendan really likes his bath, but he hates to get out.

Clean, dry, dressed and smelling pretty. Brendan is fascinated by the lights in the kitchen.

All I wanted was to put the boys together for a photo. Trevor decided that he was going to eat his brother’s brains. Braaaaiiins.

Week 10 – Day 3

Our home care nurse paid a visit today. Brendan’s weight is exactly the same as it was on Tuesday. He was at the end of his break between feeds so he had a very empty belly today. That can really make a difference when you only weigh 7 pounds. The nurse was happy that there was no weight loss, and we will see what he weighs again on Monday. A few extra days will be good to see real change.

Because the oxygen causes Brendan’s nose to be so dry and his nasal passages to get thick, the nurses recommended hot steamy air every once in a while. I took Brendan in to the bathroom while I ran a hot shower and steamed him for a while. He was very comfortable in there until I opened the door to get my camera and let it the cold air. So we have unhappy Brendan picture.

Aunt Heather #1 bought Brendan the same swing that he had in the hospital and it arrived at the door today. It is a gentle rock vs the big swing and he really likes it. He spent some time in there happy today until he got too hot.

Keeping Brendan cool is a challenge. He wants the confinement of being swaddled, but he just gets so sweaty and hot in blankets. I found a compromise that seems to work for now. If I put him on his side and bolster him with his nest pillow, his hands stay “centered” like the therapists want. Gravity gives him the confinement of his arms, and his skin is able to breathe. I would think he would be cold, but he has been sleeping comfortably like this now for an hour.

“I got the whole bed to myself, I got the whole wide bed to myself” (Trevor got to sleep alone for a while during Brendan’s swing time)
