There is nothing right now but the sound of the oxygen concentrator purring away and the occasional grunt or hum from a sleeping Trevor.
We started the morning with a trip back to the hospital for a follow up appointment with the heart center. The appointment was at 10:00am and we were going to leave the house by 8am so that we could stop at the imaging area and get a chest xray first. The only plans you can count on is planning to change your plans! By 7:30, it was apparent that we were not getting out any time soon.
We were getting Brendan ready for his morning feeding and medications and he deftly whipped the NG tube right out of his nose. No big deal, right? We were prepared for this. We get the supply box and get ready to put the tube back in. Unfortunately, in our kit of feeding stuff, there were no packets of lubricant gel. In order to put the tube down his nose, you need a decent blob of water based lube, the hospital uses good old KY jelly. We didn’t have any in the house either, so Bill had to run to the pharmacy to pick some up.
In order to avoid walking in to a pharmacy and buying nothing but a large tube of KY, Bill came home with a few other baby related items. 😀
After putting on a brand new cannula and NG, re-taping everything and getting both boys fed and dressed, milk pumped and car loaded, we ended up making it to the hospital by 9:40. We should have known that it would take 40 minutes of paperwork and waiting before getting the xray done. We were only 50 minutes late to our appointment.
The good news is that the xray looked excellent. His lungs were more clear than they have ever been. Our ng tube placement was perfect. We even could see little tooth buds in his jaw where the teeth are starting to grow beneath the gums.
They also did an EKG in the office and that was excellent too. We came home with a slightly revised feeding plan, reduced Lasix regimen, and an appointment to come back after the new year.
Trevor slept in his car seat the entire time we were there. He went over 4 hours between eating which is unheard of! He really likes the car seat and traveling, and we are so glad he is such a good baby.
When we got all settled at home, we had a very overtired Brendan and he had a hard time getting to sleep. He should sleep for a while now, it has been an exhausting day for all of us.
I didn’t even pick up the camera today, but I took some extra pictures yesterday that I didn’t post.

I snapped this pic with my phone while trying to console Brendan tonight. For a tiny baby that is not even aware of his hands yet, he is very skilled at picking at the very corner of the tape on his face. He slides his little fingers in to the small gap between the tape and his nose and pulls the tubes perfectly. For someone that needs therapy on his thumbs, he has the thumb/forefinger pinch and pull move down perfectly.

I really look forward to the day that he doesn’t need the cannula. The O2 tube pulled off of the machine last night once and his numbers quickly fell, so we know he isn’t ready quite yet for the O2 to be gone.
The only other funny thing to share is that our dog Quinn is really attached to Brendan. When Brendan is crying, Quinn runs around and whimpers and cries too. Trevor’s cries don’t seem to worry him. Quinn has been really clingy and even jumped up on the couch and slept on Bill’s legs while he napped. I bet he is really worried about another baby showing up. Both dogs were thrown off when we brought a second one in!
I absolutely in no way believe that this weekend in Christmas. This is a strange year!!
