Week 7 – Day 4 – Gramma goes home

Medically not much has changed today. Brendan is stable and comfortable. His feedings were changed from 20ml an hour for 24hrs to 22ml and hour for 22hrs. This just gives him a break in the day as they work toward getting him off continuous feeds to make it easier for him to come home. His blood pressure medication is being increased slightly as well.

Gramma and I went to the hospital this morning with Trevor so that she could spend time with both boys before heading to the airport at noon. We are all going to miss her very much. It is hard to believe it has been a whole month already! Thank you, Mom, for all of the love and support and we hope you feel better soon.

I am always prepared for some big surprise when I arrive at the hospital. Today, it was a cute surprise! We get to Brendan’s room and he is in a swing! He seemed to be really comfortable with it too!

Once Brendan woke up, he got to spend some time with Gramma

While I got Brendan’s situated in Gramma’s arms, Trevor waited in Brendan’s bed nest. I would say that he found it pretty comfortable.

Holding two babies at once takes some skill, especially when one is a total sleepy noodle and the other is awake.

Brendan is very alert and awake in the mornings

Brendan seems to be alarmed at the brother encroaching on his space

This looks like a serious conversation

The boys got to meet Aunt Heather #1 today, she just flew in from Colorado for the weekend.

This is Aunt Heather from dad’s side of the family, the boys also have an Aunt Heather on my side. When they start to talk, the boys will have to come up with nicknames for them so they can be different!

As if there were not enough pictures, I leave you with a video. I believe they must be communicating telepathically… hahaha

Week 7 – Day 3

Just another day of waiting today. The good news is that Brendan broke the 3 kilogram mark, so he is growing! (That’s 6lbs, 9.6oz) He has to be at least 5kg in order to have his first big surgery. They’ve stopped the Milrinone and replaced it with another blood pressure medication that seems to be helping him maintain his heart rate. Nothing is hooked up via IV again now, we will see how long it can stay that way.
They had to keep tweaking Brendan’s oxygen levels overnight, he goes between .1 and .3 liters per minute of flow. They still hope that he can get off of it all together soon.
Trevor stayed home for his last day alone with Gramma, she has to fly home tomorrow. She’ll be back to see them again in February. Trevor will go with all of us to the hospital again in the morning for another brother visit!

So the important stuff for today, the pictures –

There was recently a huge telethon to raise money for the children’s hospital. A small part of the proceeds went to bringing these adorable teddy bears to all of the patients. They gave us a matching bear for Trevor too!

Brendan is getting used to the idea of clothes! He pulled out his feeding tube overnight, so the shirts with the hand covers are important!

Brendan is trying to get the same chunky cheeks that his brother and cousin have.

“I see internet people”

Trevor spends time on his tummy and is really getting good at lifting up his head

Trevor’s tummy time video! I love the sounds.

Week 7 – Day 2

There is not much new today, just coasting and focusing on growth and rest. Brendan’s feedings have been increased again by another 2cc per hour. They wanted to try removing the nasal cannula today, but it didn’t go well. He is on 0.1 – 0.2 liters per minute of flow at 100% oxygen and while that seems like a tiny amount, it is just enough to keep his numbers in a good range.
When the cannula was removed, he lost O2 saturation too quickly. He will just need a little more time.

The best news today is that Trevor came to visit again and got to spend some cuddle time with his big brother. With that said, here are some adorable pictures.

And we have to have a video. I apologize for the extremely loud and obnoxious alarm. I want to have the volume turned up to be able to hear Trevor. He sang to Brendan almost the entire time, pausing only to laugh or growl. But that beeping is loud. I did not realize the video would pick it up so well.
