Year 2 – Week 26 – Day 2

Brendan continues to improve but he has a LONG way to go to get back to where he was before he got sick. We were able to turn down his oxygen a bit today. He has not worn his PMV all week and we had to slow down his food rate while his stomach was upset. All things we will have to work on in time. Bill had to do a volunteer event for work and so it was just me and the boys all day. They were super sweet to me and had a pretty good day.

Trevor is working on facing his fears

We did a big game of “Inventory Undo”. Classic “Undo” is just me picking things up and the boys following behind and taking it all back out again. Every once in a while, we take all the toys out of the box, sort them, wipe them and put them away with all their pieces. We found and sorted everything but we are missing two letter magnets. Trevor takes great pride in hiding them from me.

After Undo, we worked on some sharing.

Trevor was good but still did plenty of climbing. He is at least getting better at it and slips and falls less.

They thought they were helping me do laundry

Brendan is helping me clean up after his brother.

It is work that is never done!

Trevor stepped in to Daddy’s shoes by himself. He must think he is big!

And here is yet another adorable montage

Year 2 – Week 26 – Day 1

Brendan is most definitely feeling better and his numbers are gradually improving more and more. It is a huge relief to see the O2 sats come up. It was an odd Thursday to have Nurse Jen with us, so I decided to take Trevor out so that Brendan would play with her and not be distracted. The weather was too gorgeous to pass up the chance to get outside.

Back to the zoo we go! This time we remembered the hat and drink!

We went to a different section this time, first the reptile/amphibian house. He liked the frogs because they were moving. He didn’t care about the still snakes and lizards.

He loved the prairie dogs. They were VERY active, squeaking and fighting, and also stretching out to sun themselves.

We must have gone too early for the tiger, he was just waking up

Trevor had to be like the other kids at the tiger exhibit. He loves kids. He was walking up to strollers and saying hi to babies too.

He still loves vehicles

Rhinos are serious

We did one of the special exhibits today – the giraffe encounter. We got in line early so we were one of the first ones on the deck.

Trevor got to give the tallest giraffe a few pieces of lettuce

I fed the giraffe a little kibble of Giraffe Chow

These giraffes know how to pose for pictures

When we got home, Trevor got some lunch and then he took a 3hr nap. It was perfect because I could leave him home with Bill (working) and Jen and I could take Brendan to his checkup. Trevor slept the whole time and didn’t even realize we had left the house.
Brendan was in the Cars theme room at the doctor’s today.

The doctor says he sounds so much better, his color was better, he was breathing better, his ears were still a little red but much improved. Most of all, his sats are better! We still have not turned the oxygen down but right now he is sleeping and he is at 84-88% instead of the 73-78% where he was hanging a few days ago. Doc wants a follow up chest xray in 6 weeks just to see how he healed.

Tonight, Brendan was a spazz. He pulls up to stand on just about anything now!

He is getting more confident about reaching out for things.

Teamwork at its finest.

It is funny how cute the boys can be together and then how much jealousy there is. Trevor is having a hard time adjusting and doesn’t like Brendan playing with some of “his” favorite toys. Like his chomp and clack!
Brendan is jealous of Mommy-time with Trevor and tries to climb on to my lap anytime Trevor is with me.

Here’s another video montage for today, this time it is more Brendan focused. And he does something pretty cool!

Year 2 – Week 25 – Day 7

I am happy to report that there was some improvement today with Brendan’s numbers. He was playful, happy, busy, crawling, climbing, laughing and smiling and if it were not for the oxygen flow and the pulse-oximeter, you would never know that he wasn’t all better. We go to see the doctor again tomorrow afternoon for a follow up. Hopefully by then, he will have made a bigger improvement.

I was trying to take a picture of the bad rash. It is all over his forehead and down his hairline, behind his ears and on his neck. The camera doesn’t pick it up well.

This is Brendan-attack face. If I sit on the floor, he crawls right over and tries to climb on me!

As if Brendan’s journey wasn’t enough of a roller coaster, having a Trevor is a new adventure and a new challenge every day. Keeping him busy is key! We started with a quick run to Sam’s Club for more diapers. We filled up the car with gas and went through the car wash. He didn’t cry a bit this time, I think he is starting to like it.

We came home and sorted clothes. We made a pile of stuff to send to Pittsburgh. Everything but the little chairs is going in the box. We’ll even throw in the juice cup for the trip. 🙂

And here’s another little Trevor montage for a good laugh.
