Year 2 – Week 36 – Day 6

Brendan had his cardiology appointment this morning so his nurse and I got both boys all packed up for the drive to the hospital. I don’t know whether it is nerves or motion sickness, but Brendan threw up in the car again.

We travel a little lighter than we used to

Brendan was getting worried

We sat in the lobby for 45 minutes. The boys did exceptionally well all things considered. Brendan just put his feet up and waited.

Brendan was not real happy about getting an echo, but he did a very good job holding still. He just kept trying to grab the tech’s hand and move the camera himself. Then we had more waiting.

Brendan had an EKG and did a good job for that too. He just played his stacking game. Then more waiting.

I tried to keep Trevor occupied with snacks and he played with an otoscope while we waited. The doctor finally came in and gave us big happy thumbs up. He said Brendan’s heart is doing really well. No problems and no changes.

We tried to make sure the boys didn’t nap in the car on the way home. It was almost 1PM when we got home and I got a little more food in Trevor and they both went to sleep. An oxygen tank refill came and went and both boys slept three hours! They probably won’t want to go to bed tonight now!

Trevor took this picture of Brendan

Brendan wanted to play with the camera too. This is is arm waving “I want that” act. He waves his hands and reaches out and makes a little sound. It he doesn’t get what he wants, he makes little goose honks and starts to cry.

I am ultra tired. Travelling with these kids takes it out of me! Then, the phone rings. They have a cancellation in the sleep lab and they can get Brendan in for his delayed sleep study TOMORROW NIGHT! eek! If he doesn’t come in tomorrow, then they can’t fit him in for a month, so we have to jump on this opportunity! Hopefully this will mean bye bye ventilator once and for all!!

  1. Wow, what a busy day you had, and great news! I hope there will be more great news after the sleep study tomorrow night. Hopefully it’s all back to moving forward!
Trevor took a nice picture of Brendan. They both looked so cute riding in the twin stroller now that there’s room for Trevor!
I hope you get some rest after your busy day, and that tomorrow night goes well for Brendan.
    Lots of love and hugs.

  2. The boys looked to be sooooooooooooo good all things considered. They wait more patiently than most adults. Hopefully the study will go well. They are the sweetest hands full I ever saw. Hope you get some rest tonight…v

  3. Good morning from the equally tired East Coast! I am happy to report that I can actually take time to catch up on a few blogs, at home (phone works sporadically in hospital) !! What a delight to see those two smiling faces and what a sense of relief you must have with Brendan’s cardiologist’s report! Woo-Hoo!! Did Brendan’s visit preclude Trevor’s garbage truck adventure?? Hope he didn’t miss his “buddy”? Crossing fingers that the sleep study is successful!! We are happy to report that Uncle Rich is tube free…both chest tubes and catheter is out, just IV lock for antibiotics…just need his body to catch up to his scans and x-rays which look good! Prayers, hugs and much love!!! 🙂
