Year 2 – Week 47 – Day 4

It was a better day today, there was more fun and lots of chore-procrastinating but still lots of moods and work and exhaustion. The summer just needs to be done, we need some nice outdoor weather!! I think we all have summer cabin fever.

We opened up the outside play area and turned on the misters outside so that we could try to draw on the patio. It was hot and muggy but still good to be out.

We harvested pomegranates from our tree

You can always count on Trevor to spray things with a hose. He washed up the pomegranates as I picked them.

Brendan did a lot of swinging

If you stopped him or didn’t push hard enough, he would sign “More! Please!!”

Time to rinse off the boy covered in chalk and grass clippings

He will wash the chalk away

After Trevor’s nap this afternoon, he was bopping around in his crib. I was watching him on the spy cam while I was holding Brendan. He has never tried to climb out of his crib before, his crib is designed in a way that makes it very difficult. But he has gotten tall enough that he hangs over the rail. I watched him bounce and push himself a little further over, then he started putting his foot on the side and went a little further… and then Bill rushed in and grabbed him. I don’t know what he thought might have happened. He would have toppled right over and fell on his head.

I hoped that he would make it until 2yrs old before we had to take him out of his crib. With as much of a monkey as he is, I am surprised we made it this far.
His room is not ready for him to be loose in there, so for now, I took the floor out of the crib and put the mattress on the ground. I can barely put him in! He should not be able to climb, but it is not the best setup. We will have to do the toddler bed conversion.

Trevor helped me change his crib

And just like that, another leap forward from baby to big boy.
Here’s a spy cam shot of him in his deep crib

Year 2 – Week 47 – Day 3

It was just one of those days around here. When everyone is healthy and things are going well, I guess I set an expectation that the day will be fun and productive. I stayed up with Brendan last night and only got sleep in 15-30 minute patches all through the night. The moment I would lay my head down and close my eyes, something would beep or buzz or Brendan would turn and get all tangled. He was very active in his sleep last night.
I can’t count the number of times I dropped something, broke something or did something wrong today. I was clumsy, tired and crabby.

Bill tried to help by taking Trevor out on an outing. They went to a plumbing supply store and then ended up at a park Bill used to go to as a kid.

Everything today was a battle. I couldn’t let my guard down for a second, the boys were climbing on to precarious perches, throwing train buildings, hitting each other, trying to get to the electrical outlets under the vent, spilling everything they could. There wasn’t a moment to breathe.
I tried to take Trevor out front to play in his sandbox. If I even turned my head, he was taking the shovel and eating mouthfuls of sand. He seemed to like it. But almost everything I put on his tray for meals got thrown or fed to the dogs.
If they weren’t fighting over the iPad, they were trying to stand on it. I don’t know how we will survive the terrible twos at this rate.

Needless to say, I didn’t take pictures, our hands were full.

I can’t have a no-Brendan picture day, so here is a cute spy cam shot.

Year 2 – Week 47 – Day 2

Trevor’s outing this morning was odd. I took him to the park by the library to check it out. All of the playground was fully exposed to the sun so it was too hot to play. There was a small lake and plenty of ducks so we walked down there to check it out. There was this funny duck that looked a bit like Don King.

We didn’t take anything to feed them today, but the pigeons didn’t know it. As we walked around the water, we came up on some very big geese.

The geese were aggressive and started to charge at us, hissing!! I would yell at them and they would back off, but as soon as you turned around, they would charge.

We went in to the library since we were there and read a few books. Trevor was too wound up though and wanted to run.

The library was just too “yucky” and it was making me nervous. Brendan just got back to healthy! When a 4yr old girl with no parent in sight picked her nose and ran up to try to wipe it on Trevor’s shirt, we got out of there as fast as we could.

I am really missing my newer camera. It is hard to take pictures in my dark living room. The shop will have it for a few more weeks! Brendan had a great day. He is so smiley, silly, and trying to do all the naughty things he has seen Trevor do. He is taking apart the train bridge.

He has to put some of the parts in the vise.

Trevor spent some time this evening playing outside in the sand box with Bill. When he came in, he got a quick sink bath. (His second of the day, he had one after the library too!)

He was very busy and wouldn’t look at the camera except when I asked him to make his “yum” face.

Trevor is getting pickier every day about what he will eat. He is mainly objecting to textures. He wouldn’t eat his broccoli/cauliflower mix even with cheese sauce on it because it wasn’t cooked soft enough. I wouldn’t let him escape the high chair without his greens tonight, so he drank some baby food green beans with a straw and loved it. Whatever it takes.

We survived “Friday the 13th”. Hopefully it will be a nice, uneventful weekend.
