Year 3 – Week 19 – Day 5

It was a day full of tasks. I started out early taking our van in for service. I never thought the day would come when I would appreciate the quiet 2hrs of waiting at the dealership. Trevor played in Bill’s office while Bill worked through some meetings and then they came to pick me up.
At the end of the day, the van needed a new water pump to stop the weird squealing noise it was making.

When we got home, both boys had to fully explore Daddy’s truck

I wasn’t in the mood for hanging around and waiting for the garbage truck today. We did some yardwork out front and when it still didn’t show, we got on the bike and hunted it down. Everything is starting to bloom and get colorful now. There are lots of oranges in the street and Trevor kept wanting me to squish them by driving over them.

We watched the truck dump about 80 cans before we finally headed home for lunch.

I had a paperwork meeting for Brendan’s services, plus I got nearly through two more onesies while the boys napped.

Year 3 – Week 19 – Day 4

It was not bad for a Monday. I have come to realize that the best chance for a peaceful day is to take away all of the toys. The boys play very nicely together when the activities don’t involve any possessions.
Like this morning, we made a giant mountain using almost every pillow in the house. They climbed, rolled, fell, jumped, bounced, stacked and played for hours.
We went in to the toy room and dumped a bucket of trucks, and it was a screaming fight for specific trucks.

Then we went outside to do yardwork. There were a few battles over lawnmowers, but Brendan really likes to push the cart.

We try to keep Brendan settled during his feeding times, so I put the boys in high chairs and turn on a TV show or movie. I asked Trevor what he wanted to watch and he said, “No movie!”
I suggested a few things he likes and he said, “No movie!!!”
I figured he wanted down, I said, “I will just turn the TV off.”
Trevor gives me a glare and with a roll of his eyes says “GNOME. MOVIE.”
They love the lawnmower racing scenes in Gnomeo and Juliet. Of course. I felt like an idiot!

Brendan had speech therapy today. The hardest part is getting him to engage with his therapists. He likes to pretend they are not there. A sensory activity that his OT suggested is DIY foam soap. It is just a few tablespoons of dish soap and a 1/4 cup of water and then blended. The longer you mix, either with a hand mixer, immersion blender, or food processor, the more stiff and dense the foam is. We tried it tonight and got Trevor started. He LOVED it. I hoped Brendan would want to copy and join in.

Here’s a cute little montage of the day’s activities.

Year 3 – Week 19 – Day 3

Brendan had a better night with Bill last night, they both got some sleep. Brendan even took a decent nap, but Trevor did not. Trevor got out of his bed, opened his door a crack, and yelled into the hallway, “Mommy? Is Trevor OK?” I guess that meant he wanted me to check on him.
I took him on an errand with me so that he wouldn’t wake up Brendan and he had his very first all-out meltdown in a store. He screamed the whole time, and couldn’t get a grip. He must have really needed that nap!

When we got home, he played outside for a while. He was delighted to splash in puddles of mud from all the rain we got.

Tonight, the boys had a big “burp rag fight”. They were both extra silly.

In order to get the 7 small oxygen tanks that we have up off the floor and away from toddler hands, I sewed an organizer that is now mounted on the inside of the hall closet door. I keep finding projects that get in the way of getting onesies done!
