Year 4 – Week 33 – Day 2

Our home seems to have become the Legoland of Arizona. 🙂

Thanks to Amazon’s same day shipping on a Sunday, we got a handful of cool candy molds. There has been a viral video going around of a guy making Lego gummy candies and we tried to follow his instructions. We mixed four colors of candy mix.

Gelatin is really goopy
433bt02

Mixing in the flavors, stirring is serious business
433b06

Injecting the molds. Our stock of 60ml syringes comes in handy!

(Brendan had his helmet on for bike riding)
433b07

This made a colorful and very sticky mess on my oven
43303

The kids gave up on candy making and Aunt Heather decided to pull out the “big momma” Lego kit that we got in our biggest bulk bucket buy. First they broke up chunks and organized the pieces.
43304

Legos are no match for the full Komac-attack
43305

Ashley did stop to fill some molds too
43306

43307

Kayla filled her molds with melted chocolate because her braces won’t allow her to eat gummies.
433t11

The chocolate ones came out great. The gummy ones are still setting up.
433t08

433t09

Brendan just loves his real Lego ninja guy.
433b08

Kayla bailed on the group Lego project and decided to work on her own. She found a box in our collection that she was very excited about.
43308

One hour and forty five minutes later….

The big reveal! (With Kayla’s finished project too!)

The boys loved the wheel with the special motor. We only had to scrounge about 16 pieces out of the buckets. Not bad for a set with over 1000 pieces!
433bt03

433t10

This isn’t part of the kit. Ashley made this beach addition herself. There are little tiny surfers being chased by sharks, a nice cafe to grab some snacks, and beautiful white sandy beaches.
43309

The wheel was the centerpiece at dinner tonight.
433bt04

The girls did manage to get in about an hour of swimming today. We have a giant list and not enough time to do it all!!

Year 4 – Week 33 – Day 1

I don’t have too many pictures from this week. On Thursday, we tried making a trip to the Science Center. We just happened to pick the one day that they had some kind of record attendance from Summer Camps and out of town groups. One of the employees told me that there were 700 groups of kids.
It was pure chaos. I have never seen anything so out of control and noisy! We tried to find quiet areas. There were so many people, I felt like it was violating fire code.
433t01

But almost everywhere we went, we were getting swarmed with little ones in matching t-shirts. It was like stepping on an anthill and having them overrun your shoes.
433t02

We bailed on the museum and had lunch at Red Robin, then went back to Lego building. Kayla is almost done with the third large Star Wars ship in the bucket. Bill took Kayla to Brendan’s favorite game store where she could pick and choose a bucket of her own legos.

Bill had to change out some small parts in the truck.
43301

We met Brendan’s PT at a playground today so that he could really put Brendan to the test, jumping and climbing and crawling. He did it all with enthusiasm!

433b03

433b04

The playground has this mini zipline. Kayla tried it first.
43302

Trevor got brave and did it too! He said it was “so so so so so so much fun!” He waited in line and did it twice.
433t03

Aunt Heather and Ashley got in safely this afternoon. We rode the SkyTrain and met them in the terminal. Brendan had been asking for two days to go to the airport again.

Tonight, Bill had to work – and had a conference call right at 8PM when the boys are going to bed. Since Bill was not available and Heather was helping Ashley get ready for bed, Kayla had to rock Trevor. 🙂
433t04

433t05

We have big plans for an action packed week. I hope it all goes well!

Year 4 – Week 32 – Day 5

Before the week escapes me entirely, I need to do a post!

Saturday, while we were still in Libertyville, Brendan and Bill were hanging out at the Tempe transportation day. Brendan got to check out lots of cool vehicles, and see police horses!

Trevor and I were at the birthday party!
432t01

43201

Caleb the 4yr old!
43202

43203

Rhys about to be 1!
43204

Kieran had a blast at the party too!
43205

Trevor was overwhelmed by the noise and the crowds. We tried to run around outside but it was 50 degrees and raining!!
432t02

We missed the cake and singing, but Trevor took a really good nap in the car. We saw the birthday boys again before the party was over.
43206

43207

Sunday, we had a picnic at Aunt Heather’s house to celebrate Kayla’s 8th grade graduation! Congratulations Kayla!
We should have brought a cardboard cutout of Brendan so that he could have been in these pictures. Gramma could barely wrangle her tsunami of grandsons as it was!
432t03

432t04

432t05

432t06

We tried for more group shots with Aunt Letty but the cries rang out “You are squishing me!!!”
432t07

The girls weren’t in these pictures because they were too busy with their friends. Kayla is getting ready to be a high-schooler.
43212

We had an exhausting trip, there was so much to do and so little time. It was great to see Aunt Letty too, but we didn’t really have much time to visit. Monday, we went to the airport and we “stole” a Kayla!
It was a decent flight home, and the last few days have just been about trying to recover and do laundry.

And play with lots of Legos.
432bt01

432bt02

Brendan kept asking Kayla to build him a Lego Wall-E. She made him one without even looking up a picture. Pretty good work!!
432b05

Brendan loved it!
432b06

Kayla was eager to dig in to some of the model kits that were part of our last big bulk purchase. We had a ziploc bag with a kit number on it that turned out to be a Star Wars x-wing fighter. About 80% of the parts were in the bag, the rest had to be “scrounged” from the giant pile!
43208

43209

We only had the instruction book for the Star Wars ARC-170 Fighter. It had to be 100% scrounged from the pile. We almost gave up on it twice! 396 pieces to find! We weren’t totally successful in locating every one, but we were able to make a few substitutions.
43210

Champion of Lego Mountain!
43211

There are at least 6 more ziploc bags of kits left with plenty of scrounging necessary. Kayla is already asking which one is next!

The boys both love having their cousin here, although it has been quite a rough couple of days. Trevor is finally catching up on sleep and starting to act more like himself. He was living in meltdown city full time for a while!
It has been well over 100 degrees here since we got home, but this weekend we are supposed to have cooler temperatures.
