We are going to hope that this is only going to be for a few days, but Brendan got re-admitted to the hospital this morning. They want him to be safe while they try to rebalance his meds and make sure that his heart is still stable. His chest xray showed a bit of haziness in his upper lungs and they believe he has early symptoms of pneumonia from aspirating fluids from his reflux. The doctor was eager to get him started on an antibiotic to cover this and even put the IV in himself when the IV team took too long to come up to the room.
They did a nasal swab and tested for several viral infections including RSV and those came back negative. His CBC and electrolytes came back normal also. When I called just now, the nurse said that he had been sleeping for a few hours so they are keeping him comfortable.
It was a very emotional day being back in the hospital and watching all the wires comes back, making it harder to pick him up and hold him to comfort him. He is back on the big clunky O2 blender but the warm moist air seems to be making him feel better.
The admission process did not go very smoothly but now they seem to have him controlled, I just hate that he has to be alone so much again after spending so many weeks at home.
I am going to go back to be there in time for rounds in the morning to see what they all think about his situation. Due to the risk of RSV, Trevor is not allowed to go to the unit at all so we are very glad that Gramma is here to spend time with him. Bill is sick himself and saw the doctor this morning to start some meds and he will be working from home and trying to get as much sleep as possible.
I haven’t missed a day without pictures, so there are just a few that I took with my cell phone.
