Week 44 – Day 5 – Happy 10 month birthday!

I am sure when they are ten years old, I will look back in amazement about how the time flew by, but right now I am in denial that they are 10 months old today. It doesn’t even seem possible. We didn’t do anything special for their 10 month birthday. We went about all the tasks of the day, mixed in some chores and errands and lots of yawning.

Brendan spent a lot of time on the floor but couldn’t handle all of the excitement. He took a little nap on Daddy.

Trevor did not take an afternoon nap, despite my best efforts. I tried to let him cry it out today, which usually works for him and he is asleep in a few minutes. This time he just cried and cried and cried and I felt like an absolute heel. I didn’t want to give in, but I eventually went to get him for his bottle.
He went with me to Safeway for groceries and was still wide awake the whole time. So tonight he was just a mad little cranky crab.

The one thing I always wanted to try when he gets like this is a second bath. Baths are Trevor’s kryptonite, it totally worked. A little bit of soaking and lots of bubbles and I had a happy baby that played for an hour and then went to bed right on time with hardly any rocking.

Poor thing just needed to soak his stresses away

Hugging his pillows of bubbles makes it all better

Brendan is taking important lessons from Trevor during meal time. I think he tries to copy. He just loves his brother!

Week 44 – Day 4

We started with another early day today. Trevor decided 5am was a good time to start and then he just decided to stay up. Fortunately he took some really good naps today. I even got almost 2hrs of nap in this morning while the boys slept.
It is a good thing because it is going to be a long weekend!

Brendan had a lot of good play time today.
“Hey, what does this thing do?”

HYPNOTIZED

Brendan’s new trick is working well…using the other big toe to scrape the pulse oximeter probe off. It doesn’t read well like this!

Brendan played with “Nutritious Chicken Noodle Dinner” puree today. I am not sure how nutritious it is to tape but he had fun.

There was a little chameleon envy going on

Poor Trevor is so very sensitive! We were just playing a little game and I startled him with too much silly. He goes from laughing to scared cry very quickly.

He is also hilarious though. When is the last time you typed something and put this much of yourself in to it!?

Daddy was sent to baby jail this evening!

Since we have to be up all night anyway, I figured this was the best night to try new food with Trevor. If he has trouble later, I won’t lose any more sleep. He has had pureed chicken before but tonight he got real bits of baked chicken breast and some soft steamed broccoli.

Trevor wanted to pet the broccoli

The first bite was a hard gag, a shudder and a wince. I think it was the texture. He got over it very quickly though and continued to eat the other pieces.

“Yes, Mommy, I ate all my broccoli!”

Sure he did

“Yeah, umm.. boy this chicken sure is good!”

Brendan’s other new trick is that he has decided to operate his own suction machine.

He even has his hand right over the port to initiate the suction. He likes the sound of it slurping up his bubbles and he likes to stick the tip of his tongue on it. Weird baby!

Week 44 – Day 3

There are not too many pictures today, I had my hands full for too much of the cute stuff!

Last night Trevor went to bed late at 8:30 and then was up at 11pm wanting a bottle. He heard Brendan was up and then wanted to be awake. He finally was in bed by about 12am, but then he was up again at 5am. From then on he was up for the day! Needless to say, I am tired!!

Other than teething crankiness, today was pretty ordinary. Trevor will use anything to bite on now.

He also learned that if you blow through the chew tube teething toy that it whistles. He figured out how to do it himself quickly!

Brendan did a lot of laughing

He sprinted off of the ventilator for 4hrs and 45 minutes today! He was doing great and the went down for a nice long nap. Instead of waking him up to put the ventilator back on, I just let him go. His numbers were great! He will continue to do 4hrs a day until we talk to his pulmonologist again.
