Week 43 – Day 3

The wonderful thing about writing this blog is taking some time each night to reflect on the day and focus on all of the positive moments. Some days can be so stressful, but being able to have a good laugh at the end is very therapeutic. Bill has been very busy with work and other business, and the boys are reminding me that I don’t have enough hands for both of them at the same time.

Brendan had speech therapy today and will again tomorrow to make up for missing last week. His food aversion is very powerful and he starts to cry as soon as he sees the therapist because he knows what she is going to want him to do.
Once she leaves, he does all the things with us, he just doesn’t trust her. Of course, we get silly.

All the extra tubing is a Trevor shield to keep him from pulling on the real tubes. Brendan loves it.

Trevor still enjoys his morning baths. He has probably had 3 days in his whole life since being home that he has missed a bath. This morning he made turtle soup.

Somehow he found one of Brendan’s soothie pacifiers. He went about using it his own way though.

When Trevor is being rambunctious and Brendan needs emergency attention, there are not many places that are safe for Trevor to be. The swing is definitely not a safe place. The jungle exersaucer is the only place I can think of where he can be put down for enough time to take care of things.

Trevor does still really enjoy the swing… but again, in his own way. I laughed tears watching him tonight.

Week 43 – Day 2

All I can do is yawn while I type. It was a long, busy day. Bill had to go in to the office so it was just me and the boys again today. It started out very well, they were well behaved and went down for their morning naps right on schedule. Right after lunch is when all hell broke loose and they were both screaming for my attention. I made it through somehow.
Trevor had a tough day, not only was he teething, but his little tummy was hurting with gas cramps. Last night at about 11:45p, we were talking with Brendan’s night nurse and suddenly Trevor started screaming. It was the scared pain kind of cry, very panicked. All of us ran as fast as we could to his room, worried. He must have just startled awake with his gas pain, he was frightened and still cramping. Poor baby needed a lot of soothing to get back to sleep. I imagine that it was the bit of cheese and yogurt in his diet. The doctor told us to give it a try, but with his previous dairy issue, we wondered. He hasn’t outgrown that yet.

I did make a point to take a lot more pictures today.

I could not have made it through the day without baby jail.

Trevor is at least allowed visitors

He is determined to escape

He thinks he is a big shot with standing already, he let go with both hands and thought he was going to stand on his own. That was just a few seconds before he ate play rug. He does not get deterred by wipeouts though. He cries sometimes and then goes right back to what he was doing.

Bailey stopped by to say hello this afternoon. She convinced him to try to gnaw his way out of baby jail.

Other than the couple of attention meltdowns from Brendan, he had another fabulous day. Probably the best he has had since coming home. He is playing so well. He sprinted 3 hours again. He was all silly and smiley and needed little suctioning.

Next to Jacque the Peacock, Brendan’s favorite thing is the yellow puff jar. His eyes light up when he sees it and he reaches for it with both hands.

He is doing it all wrong, but that is OK. His two top teeth are so close to breaking through, and they look like big ones! It will be so funny to see him with big teeth.

Trevor’s teething is progressing too, but he will at least chew on cold things and eat ice cubes to help. Trevor really likes the grape Tylenol and wants to hold the dropper and eat it himself.

We have a big weekend ahead of us. We have decided to let go one of our nurses from the home healthcare company. We are going to have a lot of extra work to do ourselves until a suitable replacement is found. It means less sleep for us, but it is the best thing for Brendan.

Week 43 – Day 1

We made it through Tuesday! There are some changes coming this week that I am looking forward to. Today was extremely busy, Trevor kept me on my toes all day with his activity and he was a little extra clingy because his teeth hurt.
Whenever Trevor was asleep, Brendan and I had play time. I got him down on the floor and put him on sprint for 3 hours today. He did great!

I didn’t have a lot of chances to grab the camera today, the only picture I took of Brendan was him sleeping on me. I try to give him “tummy time” and a chance to lift his head up without getting his trach pulled.

He had a lot of smiles for me, it was good to see. He also played hard today. He was very interested in grabbing toys and sitting up with Trevor.

Trevor gets stronger every day with his pulling up and he is working on his balance. He is trying to figure out how to get down from standing and right now, he just does a controlled flop on to his butt. His physical therapist tried to show him to use his knees, but he doesn’t want to.

If I try to leave the room with him in his crib awake, he leaps right up. We will have to drop the mattress one more level down!

Look, only one hand!
