Week 42 – Day 7

It was not a bad day for a Monday.

Brendan decided that he would have a mostly good day. He had physical therapy today and he seems to really love his therapist, Steve. He was all smiles and happy cooperative boy while he was here. Steve was even able to hold, manipulate and test him and he just grinned through the whole thing.
The great news is that Steve says he sees marked improvement in Brendan’s strength, his sitting control, his head control, his arm strength and his lifting in tummy time.
The bad news is that Brendan has a bit of a curve in his spine, and a tendency to want to lean to the right. It is something that we are just going to have to work on, like the flattened spot on his head. If we can correct it now and early, he will never know it was a problem.

Brendan likes to show off how flexible he is getting.

He was in a super silly mood this afternoon. I wish I knew what makes him feel this good.

The super happy baby lasted about four hours and then he was back to crabby tired baby and needed to go to bed.

Trevor the crabby tired baby would not nap this afternoon. His little teeth were really bothering him today but several ice cubes, refrigerated bite toys, and tylenol kept him mostly happy.
He was so overtired come dinner time so he was a little slap happy. I would also say he isn’t really fond of yogurt. It was plain yogurt with sweet pear sauce mixed in. I thought it was pretty tasty! Trevor’s reaction is funny.

As always, hoping for a better day tomorrow.

Week 42 – Day 6

I felt like a zombie today. Saturday nights are starting to add up I think. It has been an exhausting week! Last night Brendan decided it was the perfect time to pee a fountain when I tried to change his diaper. Neither boy had caught me like that in some time. But I had to change the whole bed out and it seems like every blanket and animal in the bed got it too. Poor bewildered Brendan was probably wondering why he was in a bouncy chair at 1:30AM!

The whole routine was off today. Trevor and I didn’t get out of bed until after 8:15 this morning and the day went by like we were playing catchup.

Speaking of catchup – Trevor’s second little bottom tooth has finally broken through and there is a sharp little razor tooth there now. It is going to be a gamble as to which boy gets top ones first, although I thought Brendan’s left one had cut, he just won’t let me look.

Little Trevor got a painful lesson about trying to roll/crawl/climb off of the changing table. Of course I am trying to wrangle an extremely poopy diaper and he does his magic flip/spin/crawl maneuver and tries to take off. When I grab him, he bonks his eyebrow on the end of the table. Boy was he mad. Initially there was a little raised bump, but it is gone now. The first of many little battle wounds:

Bored with the lunch selection. He did get to try some string cheese bits today, and some little pieces of grilled chicken. He liked them both.

Little Brendan looks super cute in firetrucks!

It was a total shock, Brendan was all about the string cheese. He normally does not put any food in his mouth. If he picks up any taste, he usually jerks away.

He was shredding the end with his sharp little teeth. He did not gag on or spit out the little bits either, he ate them!

I can’t believe another week has passed by, we did a trach tube change again today. It all went smoothly and Brendan is tucked in to bed. His numbers were slightly better again today, it was a relief.

Week 42 – Day 5

I am happy to report that Brendan is feeling much better today. Heart rate is still slightly elevated, but his mood is definitely improved. He was ready to play with his little fishes again.

Bill had lots of business and errands to attend to today, so the boys and I were home by ourselves for about 5 hours. I was running around like a fool trying to take care of everything. By the time Bill got home, I had changed my shirt twice and the house looked like a tornado passed through! He walked in just in time for me to pick up Brendan and have his ostomy base pull off and poop start leaking out. Turns out Brendan had been picking on the tape, his skin was all scratched where it was leaking. And as we are getting ready to clean him up, he kept trying to stick his thumb under the tape and in to the poop.
Getting Brendan in a bath, fixing the ostomy, changing trach ties, retaping his face.. an hour later he was tucked in to bed, exhausted.

For all of the madness and noise and mess and frustration today, I am just reminded of how much worse it could all be. The only thing I really have to report on the blog today is what Trevor is eating. If the blog post is not packed with action involving hospitals, things are pretty good!

So speaking of Trevor eating, he had some melon today.

He tried it…

…and he liked it!

He was a bottomless pit today, he ate a big dinner and was asking for more. He is growing too fast!!

Brendan is trying something new too. Once he has his surgery and his feeding tube gets moved from his nose to his belly, he is going to have to wear a onesie or something in order to keep him from pulling it. We are going to try some clothes every day to get him used to it now. He just still overheats so easily!
But he sure does look so cute!!

He has to sit in the high chair with a cold pack behind his back so he doesn’t melt.

You can’t have a twin and not wear coordinating outfits at least now and then!

“Seriously, where is lunch!!?”

I hope for a peaceful night up with Brendan. The new camera system was so handy today, I don’t know why we didn’t do it months ago. Instead of sitting by a sleeping baby all night, I can get some things done!
