Year 2 – Week 37 – Day 1 – Post 2!

This is the second post of the day, keep scrolling down for Brendan’s sleep study update if you missed it!

I couldn’t have a day without Trevor pictures. He was a busy guy today. He got to have a treat after lunch of fireworks donut holes. (glazed devils food with rainbow sprinkles).
“What’s this, you say?”

“Hmmmmmm”

Pop! He might be too small for pop’em style donut hole eating.

“It magically disappeared”

“Another one? Don’t mind if I do!”

It was a breezy 105 today, so Trevor got to play sprinkler in the shade of the tree out front.

Devils food cake and mud pies on the same day?

He loved playing in the mud

Before too long he was sinking in to the ground! He played sprinkler for an hour and a half, content as can be

Daddy came out to see what was going on

And he brought some smiley company that wanted to know what was up too

I didn’t want to waste my afternoon napping, but I ended up taking one involuntarily. I hate it when that happens. I just am wiped out. I am hoping that the neighborhood holiday shenanigans don’t wake up the boys. Everyone be safe tonight and have a Happy Fourth!

Year 2 – Week 37 – Day 1 – Sleep Study s’Update

Brendan rocked his sleep study like a champion. He did awesome! There are enough pictures to make it a whole post, so here it is for everyone wondering about him this morning.

Brendan may be packing lighter to go to doctor’s appointments, but when he has to go to a sleepover, he comes with some extra stuff.

Brendan did a good job in the car, right at the end of the trip in both directions, he spit up a little bit. I was relieved that I did not have to stop on the side of the freeway to suction though. 20 miles each way made me nervous, but it was all ok!
He got scared of the ER entrance, but we were just passing through.

We had to sit in the waiting room a short time. There was another little boy there for a sleep study waiting. He was around 4 and he was running in circles like a spazz. Brendan at least had entertainment while he waited.

He also had Brobee to keep him company.

It took THREE HOURS to get Brendan all hooked up to all the different things they had to plug in. He had 2 sticker sensors on each leg, 6 on his torso, 2 sensor belts strapped around his middle. He had one sticker on his chin, 16 probes glued to his head and 3 sensors taped in to his trach, plus the oximeter on his toe. Fortunately he was so worn out, he fell asleep in the middle of it all.

They wrapped him all up in gauze to keep the probes in place and to make sure he didn’t pull things off. They also wrapped the bundles of wires up to try to keep him safe from getting tangled up.

To my surprise, he slept like a rock through the night. I thought for sure all the wraps and stickers would bother him, or he would wake up and be scared. I was able to get a little sleep too, he was so good. They let him sleep through until 5am and collected all the data they needed.
He was pretty upset about getting unwrapped and peeled this morning, but he calmed down fast and played in the big bed while I got him packed to go home.

Tongue depressors and sterile water bottles are fun.

In the car, ready to go home

Home, straight to the tub, do not pass go, do not collect $200. He had lots of probe goop, adhesive, sweat and blurp to get cleaned up.

He is happy to be home, but this was very disruptive to his routine and he is showing signs of anxiety still, scratching and being a little clingy. Trevor was in bed when we left and still in bed when we got home, so he has no idea what went down! He is just his silly self today.

Hopefully Independence Day means independence from ventilator for Brendan, permanently! Happy 4th everyone!
Time for more coffee!

Year 2 – Week 36 – Day 7

I am just doing a quick blog and then I have to pack for the sleep study tonight! We have to check in through the ER entrance at the hospital at 8PM. Once Brendan goes to sleep, they need to collect 6hrs of sleep data (not necessarily continuous). Once they have enough data, they will let us leave, even if it is 3am!

This poses a transportation dilemma, this will be the first time that I will have to take Brendan in the car alone and hope that I do not have to pull over and help him on the side of the road. There is no nursing in the sleep lab, just me. So it will be a long night! I hope he sleeps!

The boys had a busy day. They played with cars and roads.

Brendan was balancing cars on his head and letting them roll off. It was so cute!

The windowsill is an awesome place to run cars

Trevor loved carrying this ball around today. He is getting really good at throwing and also likes to kick it around.

Brendan had therapy again today. It was not as terrible as last week, but I don’t feel like we are gaining much from this experience. Brendan will continue to thrive with the love and help from his family and his nursing staff.

I have to make a list to make sure I don’t forget anything for the trip tonight! We hope for the best results for Brendan!!
