Year 3 – Week 31 – Day 6

Happy Birthday to me! I have officially entered the final year that I can call myself a “thirty-something”. It wasn’t an unusual or eventful day. It started at 5:45am with Trevor calling out, “Where are you Mommmmmmmyyy??” What are you doing??” He was up for the day, and he sure had a cranky late morning!
Brendan had OT and his therapist was thoughtful and brought some cupcakes. Brendan’s new nurse started her real shifts today and did a good job.

This is what Trevor baked for me last night

Boom! Lemon-lime!

This chicken is the closest thing to a birthday tradition that I can think of. Bill cleaned and set up the charcoal grill to do it right. YUMMMM

Bone-picking, finger-licking good

Or good for drumming too

We broke out some party glow sticks for bath time and the post bath antics hour.

If Trevor lets me put a bandaid on his skin, you know it has to be very serious.

TWO MONTHS ago while we were camping, Trevor tripped and fell into a little ball of cholla. I got all the tiny bits out of his hand and leg, but there was one tiny little dot on his knee that I could not pull anything from. All this time I have watched the little bump for any signs of infection, and all it ever was was a raised bump.
Finally, the bump started to push out the “foreign body”. It took some coaxing, but with a good pair of tweezers, a bright light, and lots of hugs, we pulled the stupid thorn out. I was shocked at how long it was, I wasn’t expecting that! It was almost 1/4inch.

He got some minty M&Ms for being such an amazing patient. Now that can finally heal!
331t21

I really wish that all my family could have been here to enjoy my birthday dinner with us. I didn’t get dressed up or go to a fancy restaurant. I did finally order the new camera lens that I have been eyeing. YAY!
Throughout the day, I was tired and frustrated, but I have three special guys that made the day awesome and unforgettable in the end.

Year 3 – Week 31 – Day 5

I somehow got through the day without taking any Brendan pictures. The boys were feisty today and attitudes are really getting fierce. I spent a lot of time with Trevor while Brendan’s nurse and then Bill occupied Brendan.

The early riser and I went on a bike ride this morning. There are a lot of baby ducks at the canal this time of year. (Yes, Trevor still is in his pajamas)

As long as we stayed on the bike, the ducks came right up quacking and begging. We tossed them cheerios. They even put their little heads right under the tire! If we got down from the bike, they retreated to a safe distance.
331t12

I wanted both boys to help bake today, but it would have gotten violent.

331t14

Trevor thinks I shook too much batter off of the beaters.

Brendan went another whole day without being connected to oxygen except while asleep. His wireless freedom is so helpful!

Year 3 – Week 31 – Day 4

This month has been eventful to say the least. We had a new nurse training with us today to take over two days a week. Two nurses in the house, plus Bill having the day off made for a busy household. Trevor was a little thrown off by all of the attention on Brendan, so we escaped to someplace cool. The Lego Store!

He will sit at the play table and build until you drag him out of there. (Can’t blame him, so would I!)

331t07

I was surprised by the very edgy/odd haircut on this young girl that sat next to Trevor. It was all but shaved all the way around, then plastered over her eye in the front with the colored ends. I really like funky hair and respect people that are bold enough to wear it, but I have mixed feelings about it on such little kids!
331t08

Brendan did a great job today with nurse training. He wore his cap all day with no oxygen for the second day in a row. It is awesome!!
Brendan has discovered what to do with chips, pretzels, or cheetos that he has finished licking.
331b08

He now has a very attentive friend
331b09

Trying to sneak out as a team

We would like to wish everyone a Happy Memorial Day, and we hope everyone was safe and well. Bill got our new flagpole mounted so that we could fly our flag today in honor of all those who have served and sacrificed.
