Week 33 – Day 2

Brendan had a decent day. Coping with the weaning of drugs and the withdrawal effects is tough, so his moods go up and down. Poor Brendan has a long road of weaning ahead. It will be months and months of very gradual changes for him. He was not as smiley as usual today, but still enjoyed playing with Gramma. He sat in the bouncy chair for a long time watching everyone staying busy.

Trevor had another multiple personality day. He was either laughs or screams or sometimes both at once.
Never fails, he enjoys his bath.

Sometimes he really enjoys his bath!

Trevor got his new toy today. He is so active and crazy, he needed a place where he could kick to his hearts content.

He went looking to see if we got all the pieces.

All clear, such a helper!

He really loved the new jungle, he wanted to play with it all at once. He already had to be set on the tallest setting too.

Another day behind us, still moving in the right direction!

Week 33 – Day 1 – One Week Home-iversary

Today was a huge milestone! Brendan has been home one whole week, it sure has flown by. It is a big deal to us that he has been doing so well, we were told that 80% of kids that leave the cardiac ICU return in less than a week’s time. Most of them come back in the first 24 hours. Not Brendan!!

It was quite a long day. Brendan had some great happy time, but he is also battling withdrawal effects as we slowly wean off medication. Trevor had some happy time, but he is battling his teeth and he just yelled, screamed, and kicked the day away.

Brendan woke up hanging on to the monkey tail.

He had a ton of play time while Trevor had his morning routine

We got out the sling today and elevated him up in the middle of the room so he could get out of bed and be part of the action!

Trevor was able to join him too!

Brendan does need to work on his leg strength, so he needed something to kick

Brendan loves his brother!!

Tornado Trevor was such trouble today, we had to sit him in the corner!

He was hilarious in the corner

Trevor does this continuous yelling, unless you keep him highly entertained. He did not take kindly to being told his video would be published!

Even though we scrambled and worked hard all day, the boys are both doing very well. We are so grateful that Brendan has continued to improve. We couldn’t do it alone. Brendan has a great night nurse that allows us to get sleep. She takes good care of him. And Gramma keeps Trevor so well cared for, we don’t have to stress about him at all. He is putting her to the test lately!
I can’t wait until I can write about another week of progress sailing by!

Week 32 – Day 7

I am too tired to type much, Trevor was up several times during the night and both boys were a handful all day!

Trevor is all full of attitude! He has a ton of energy and needs a constant outlet. We ordered him an activity center today, hopefully it arrives soon!! I also hope that when his teeth come in that he will settle down.

He does still like his oatmeal and a side dish twice a day

Brendan’s breakfast is a little different than oatmeal. This is what he gets at 9am, in addition to an inhaler treatment.

Brendan took some time after his trach change to get settled back down to being comfortable. It irritates his airway, so he needed more suctioning than normal. He also may be experiencing a bit of effect from withdrawal. He was not himself last night and most of the morning, but he got it together for the rest of the day. By the time he was ready for his sprint, he was feeling pretty good.

It is good to see when he gets his legs in motion

Hopefully everyone gets some much needed rest and Gramma doesn’t melt in her apartment, it is still hot out there tonight!
