Week 32 – Day 6

There were far too many cute pictures today. We did so many things, it was hard to pick out the best ones.

Trevor had some cute Daddy time

Brendan had some more floor time playing on his tummy, sitting up, spending time with Trevor.

I love pictures of them together. Brendan usually smiles big at Trevor and Trevor looks at Gramma like he is asking, “When does this baby stop visiting?”

Brendan’s head control improves every day

Brendan did an hour and twenty minutes off of the vent today. He was in a great mood too but needed a lot of extra suctioning. Bill went and bought another suction machine for him today and ran it so that the loud compressor part was in the bathroom and that there was a switch by the bed to turn it on and off. Now when his trach needs to be suctioned, we don’t have to startle him with a 70db compressor going on and off.

While Brendan slept and recovered from his sprint, Gramma and I took Trevor down the street to Bailey’s house to swim. The pool was a little cooler this time, he wasn’t as excited as the last swimming time!

He did finally get in to it and swam around

Trevor loves dogs. Maggie-Moo came to say hello!

Drying off in a monkey towel

Back in his hat and ready to go home. He got a second bath to get all the chlorine off of him, then dinner and to bed. He was pretty worn out!

Once Trevor was down, we all had to do the rest of the Brendan tasks for the day. He got his bubble bath and massage first but then he needed a trach change. This is a process that happens once a week that takes a lot of prep and planning and very careful action. It went very smoothly tonight and Brendan settled very quickly once I picked him up. He is sound asleep now and his night nurse should be here any time.

Week 32 – Day 5

Brendan had a great day today. We had no nurse so it was just loving care from Mom, Dad and Gramma and I think it makes such a huge difference. He has done a lot of sleeping and a lot of smiling.
Trevor had a lot of fun times today too, but he is still a little pistol in the evenings. He demands a lot of attention and cries a lot, although I still think teething is his biggest problem, followed by a little remaining gassiness. Once those teeth aren’t hurting, he should be back to super happy Trevor again.

The stronger Brendan gets, the more trouble we are going to be in!

Lions are good at keeping hands away from tubes

Brendan is going to get lots of handling, sitting, kicking practice, and tummy time every day. It is hard for him, but I think he likes the challenge.

The photo is blurry, but I was so impressed with how well he was able to pop his own head up, I had to use it anyway! He is stronger than I thought!

Trevor gets lots of play time with Gramma. He is very spoiled!

He wants to play, but he keeps his chin tucked down. It must make his teeth feel better.

Gramma is getting a good workout bouncing Trevor! He likes it so much, he can’t sit on her lap without insisting on being bounced.

Poor Trevor!!

Silly Trevor video with his new “gasping” sound and yells

Trevor learned how to drink from a straw! We just thought he might chew on it. But he got a mouth full of Gramma’s ice water. He was a bit surprised at first. The cold makes him open his mouth and let it all run out! Now that he knows what a cup is for, he begs for it when he sees it!

Week 32 – Day 4

It was a mixed day today. Brendan continued his happy streak well in to the afternoon with his numbers looking fabulous. But then there was a sudden change, he was coughing and struggling again and I can’t pinpoint exactly what happened. It might have been his 3PM meds, it might have been my forgetting to turn his humidifier back on for the ventilator after his bath (which turned in to a much longer event than planned with an ostomy change and trach ties).

He fought and cried and alarmed for a few hours and then finally fell asleep about an hour ago, although he is sleeping restlessly. I hope whatever it is passes quickly and he gets back to the wonderful Brendan that we got to see this morning. Trevor had a mixed day too. He had some super cute happy fun time and he has had some serious fits of shouting and crying. Gramma has had her hands full trying to keep him happy and fed.

We are all pretty wiped out right now. We do not have a night nurse tonight so Bill and I will be splitting the night in half staying up to watch Brendan. Bill is in bed now while I take the first shift!

I have only the cutest pictures to share from today. Some of the ones from this morning seem like they were days ago! It was a long afternoon!!

Trevor seems to enjoy his tummy time.

Brendan thought it was something to try too. He did a great job all things considered.

He lifted his head a lot more than I expected!

Physical therapist Trevor is helping with CPT.

See, Brendan does enjoy his bath time.

After all that stimulation, he needed a rest

He was still feeling happy here, looking too cute.

He really is starting to like his toys much better too. He was so cute getting excited and waving his arms at Jacque the Peacock

Poor Trevor still bites everything, and was happy tonight to eat an ice cube in a mesh strainer bag.
