Week 11 – Day 5

Funny how in a day with no obligations, it is so easy to get nothing accomplished. Bill was a very busy bee today, doing the yard work, organizing in the house and making a trip to the dump so I can’t say nothing was done. I thought I might have time to take care of some things on my own to-do list, but the boys were a handful.

Brendan had a pretty rough day. If he wasn’t sleeping, he was crying and we could not really figure out why. I had a few moments where I was able to get him comfortable but then he would get a little cough – caused by the dry air flow from his oxygen – and he would wake up again. He was pretty overtired when he was awake, hopefully he will sleep very well tonight.

Trevor did well today, except that he randomly forgets how to drink sometimes and had a few big sputtering coughing episodes while feeding. He gets so excited when you start to feed him, he really needs to settle down before eating. He has lots of quiet awake time and makes some very amusing faces.

Trevor likes to kick his feet up and watch his mobile. We won’t go in to why we don’t snap the top snap on his jammies, I think that is clear!

I am reeeeally concerned about what the baby in the mirror might be telling him to do!!

We will do anything to try to make a baby comfortable, including wrapping him like a taco in a pillow and propping him up. He was able to settle down and sleep like this for about 30 minutes.

Brendan allowed me to hold him for a little while

A brief period of happy Brendan, with a little bit of Trevor noise in the background! (and that isn’t a censor beep, it is the low battery warning on my phone that popped up!)

Week 11 – Day 4

The visit to the pediatrician went well today. The boys went bonkers when they got their shots, but both of them cried like mad for only about 15-20 seconds and then recovered. They have been a bit cranky since getting home, especially Trevor.

On the doctor’s scale today, Brendan weighed 8lbs 3oz. He was 21 inches long and had a 14in head. That puts him in on the charts just under the 5th percentile. Trevor weighed 11lbs, is 22.5 inches long and has a 15.3in head. He falls at about the 15th percentile now!

The boys on the table at the doctor’s office

Yep, Trevor is wearing the same jammies as yesterday

What is wrong with this picture?

Week 11 – Day 3

Brendan got to leave the house today to go have a hearing screening. He passed with no sign of troubles. Going to a very public place with a baby and lots of baggage that goes with him is interesting. I had lots of people staring, most of them exclaiming “oh he’s so tiny!” and every door being opened for me.

The waiting room in the audiology office was fun too. A five yr old boy asked me if Brendan was getting breathing treatments. He was very cute and curious.
A little girl who had to be three kept telling her mom there was a baby. Then when that family went to leave, the girl couldn’t stop staring at Brendan and ended up walking straight in to the door jam. She was ok, just startled.

Brendan’s home nurse came today and he weighed 8lbs 1oz!! He had a dry diaper on which they normally subtract 1/2 ounce for but he also had an empty belly. It is great to see the steady gain and we are excited that he broke the 8lb mark! His lungs sounded nice and clear and he is not retaining fluid, so the nurse was very happy with him.

We had to make Brendan very angry today in order to clean and retape his face.
He got so mad with the tape removal and cried so hard that he fell asleep so positioning and retaping was the easiest it has ever been. We are trying out these new little spot tapes for the cannula. You are not supposed to have to use anything else to hold it in place. But Brendan is so good at pulling, even with mitts on, that we continue to use the super thin clear tape on his cheeks. I wish I could have left it off.

Trevor continues to have nice uneventful days. He gets cuter and stronger every day. He got to spend some alone time with Dad today while I took Brendan to his appointment. He also took a nice long nap cuddled on me on the couch.
Besides his gassy grunting, he is just a peaceful happy kid.

Tomorrow morning, both boys are getting lots and lots of shots. They see their pediatrician for their 2-month immunizations. They will be pretty unhappy and then could be cranky the rest of the day. We had better hope for good sleep tonight!!
