Year 2 – Week 1 – Day 4

I have to start today by saying that I hope anyone in the path of the super-storm is prepared and stays safe.

We had a much better day today. The boys woke up in much better moods and seem to be a lot more comfortable and back to themselves. Both of them still have boogery noses and extra goobers and drool but the worst is hopefully behind us.

Brendan slept this morning in the bouncy chair. Keeping him upright helps with the drainage.

By lunch time, the smiles were back full force

Trevor hated how much I had to wipe his nose today, but he still found a way to be silly

I am overflowing with relief to see Brendan feeling so much better.

He was well enough to sit in his throne and write some new songs. And as I write this, Barry Manilow’s “I Write The Songs” is going through my head and won’t leave.

Trevor has to help compose

We put in some new baby gates today. It expands baby jail and makes things more safe and easy. I wish we would have thought to do this before company was here, it would have been so much better. One goes in the kitchen door. Monkey pants shows us right away what he thinks about new gates.

Now Trevor can see the dog bowls but they are not accessible. The dogs like to come and tease him too!

Trevor seems happier with this configuration, and I am too! It is safer for the nurses and all of us. Now we will just see how long it takes Trevor to figure out how to open the gates!

Year 2 – Week 1 – Day 3

Today is one of those days that just dragged on and on, and I just kept wondering if I was going to be able to make it through. Worrying is exhausting and I did not sleep well worrying about Brendan and whether we were going to end up making a trip to the ER. His heart rate was so high even while sleeping and he was breathing hard and fast and just coughing and choking and gagging. Trevor seems to be coping with his congestion and so far the symptoms are limited. He just can’t shake his fever. I have a severe fever ache and chills and just overall weakness. I thought I was going to have to sew my eyes open.
We are very grateful tonight that our Thurs-Fri night nurse is willing to come and cover so that Bill and I can get some sleep.

By the end of this evening, both boys did show some improvement. Let’s hope it keeps moving in that direction.

Brendan did find the energy to scritch and bat at his birthday balloon, and eat his glow toe. He finally managed a smile for me tonight right before bed.

Trevor’s appetite was terrible all day and he had trouble drinking his bottles. He took a super long nap in the morning but then wouldn’t really nap in the afternoon. It took a lot to get him to bed tonight, he usually has a pacifier to fall asleep, but tonight he needed to breathe through his mouth.

His obsession with the dog bowls has been thwarted with a more secure baby jail setup, so he had to find something else to do. Now he wants to peel up the edge on the play mat and eat it.

He pitches an ultimate fit if you stop him or take it away. I wish I could just let him have it, but the foam isn’t go to stand up to his little teeth.

All I can say is that I hope Trevor sleeps through the night and that they both can fight this off without having to have antibiotics or worse.

Year 2 – Week 1 – Day 2

Goodbye company, hello illness.

I suppose it had to happen eventually, it just has unusual timing. Both of my boys today have bad little colds. So far it is very runny noses. Brendan gets post nasal drip that causes him to gag and need suctioning constantly. Trevor has a low grade fever and just feels miserable. You know that baby is sick when he refuses to eat dinner or have his bedtime bottle. He went to bed early but I expect I will hear from him again tonight. Caleb has felt bad too, his little nose is still running. I hope they all feel better soon.

Caleb was still able to feel pretty silly this morning before he packed to go to the airport. He was showing me how he does “Upside!”

Trevor says, “Where are we going?”

If Brendan lies on his side, it helps prevent the drainage so he spent a lot of time being held tonight.

This picture is strangely artsy. Caleb had to say goodbye to his birthday balloon.

Gramma, Aunt Erin, and Caleb are home now. Caleb was a very good boy on the plane ride. That week went so fast, lets just hope this illness goes away fast too!
