Year 2 – Week 21 – Day 6

I don’t know where to start today, there are so many cool and interesting events. Brendan had a fantastic day (both boys did, really). He started with a physical therapy session outside in the play yard and he rocked it with big crawling, kneeling, standing, rolling, and reaching.

Something happened yesterday when we got home from the hospital and we hooked up Brendan’s food pump to his new button. I hooked up the food to the wrong port! So all yesterday, evening, night, morning… he was getting his formula in his stomach instead of his jejunum. Funny thing is, in the close up button picture from yesterday, you can clearly see the label “jejunum” in the middle port and “gastric” on the side where his line is connected.
So, inadvertently Brendan got tested with food in his belly and he has done extra super well so far. Today was one of his best days ever. It takes several days before we will know if he truly is tolerating this, but in the meantime, we will leave it and see how he does. We’ll be talking to his GI nurse tomorrow.

Brendan is enjoying his new found mobility. He is going at things with gusto, you actually have to be extra diligent because he will just launch himself at things now. (Especially at Daddy when he wants to get picked up for flying!) He is signing “more” now quite clearly and using it a lot. I sat down to start the blog and next thing I knew, there was a Brendan trying to crawl up my legs and on to my lap. That is a first!

He had another new first today, he took a bath outside! The weather today was just gorgeous and nobody wanted to come inside!

All that PT and playing and bathing and he was wiped out!! If I only had a hammock, I would have been napping outside too!

Even another first today, Brendan happily played with his OT, even though she brought tickly, stringy, fluffy easter grass.

He kept a pretty steady “disapproval face” with the easter grass around.

And yet he did touch it. He pulled it apart string by string and had it between his toes.

Trevor liked the rattle-carrots she brought too

“Go home to the lawn, easter grass”

Trevor likes to stand on his head now!

I was not dispensing the snacks fast enough

Leave the babies for even a second and they attack the medical equipment.

Brendan is going and going and going even still, he is not ready for bed! I have big plans for Trevor tomorrow and Brendan should have a nice relaxing day with Nurse Jen and no appointments or visitors.

Year 2 – Week 21 – Day 5

Ever since we got Brendan’s new feeding tube, we have continued to have issues. After the last trip to the hospital, I hoped that they had fixed it but most nights over this last week, we have had issues with the pump detecting a clog and we have had difficulty getting the medicines to go through.
It seemed to only be a problem at night and when he was sitting up in the daytime, we had no problems. Why always trouble at 3am!?
After the issues this morning again, I called the GI doctor and they got us orders to go back AGAIN to the hospital to have the tube checked. They did find a kink again that was worse when he way lying down. So out came the whole button and tube. They put in a new one, the same kind that he had way back in September when they first did the surgery to add the port. (We like going full circle so much!)
This tube is a little larger and a little less soft and flexible so it is not supposed to be able to kink like the other one. The other kind is supposed to be more comfortable but is more prone to bending.

The boys were loafing today while we waited for the order to go ahead and go in.

I had to trust “The Lorax” to keep them occupied so I could make phone calls and get ready.

We got a 1:30PM appointment which was good because it allowed Bill to work the majority of his day (he usually is off at 3PM) and it let me get lunch in Trevor before we left. Brendan and I went in to the hospital and Trevor and Bill stayed in the car and played the whole time.
It was a fairly quick procedure but Brendan was very upset and sweaty when they were done. It is so scary for him!
Even after he fell asleep in the car, his little frown did not go away.

I hoped after lunch that Trevor would sleep in the car because he usually takes his nap at 12:30. NOPE! No nap for Trevor, so he was yawning the whole way home. I made him stay awake until we got there and then put him down (At 3:15!) He slept for 45 minute which was ok because it was so late in the day.

Brendan was much happier to be home!

I tried to take a picture of the new button but he was too busy putting his toes in cups.

The new button is smaller than the last one. I like it better personally, we will see how it lasts.

No more frowns and tears!

The last thing to share tonight is a slap-happy Trevor that loves his dogs! I think Eins is coming to terms with sharing his back yard too!
(cuteness overload alert!)

Year 2 – Week 21 – Day 4

Sundays tend to be our best day of the week lately. We get more time together as a whole family, we don’t usually have appointments or phone calls, and we get our chores and things all done. I also get some of the best pictures and the blog has the fewest people checking in!

I know today was supposed to be all about green stuff, but Trevor started today with a blue theme. Blueberry yogurt that he was eating all by himself from a blue bowl and blueberry waffles.

I love all this gorgeous weather in the mornings, I am sorry for the northeastern friends and family members that are about to get another 10 inches of snow. We were outside playing with bubbles instead of snow shovels.

We have a bubble wand that makes huge bubbles, it is a drippy mess and the bubbles don’t last but it was cool for a short time.

The bubble wand is like a sword which was more popular than the giant bubbles.
Trevor claims this tile for Trevorlandia!

They make take our freedom, but they will never take away OUR BUBBLLLLES!!!!

This looks like a couple of passed out babies surrounded by their “empties”

But we were just playing with cups and eggs and practicing our stacking skills.

And crashing skills!

And standing skills!

Trevor was rocking the gate back and forth and trying to shake his brother loose!

“Hey Brendan, nobody is looking, I can change your settings!”

“Change it all you want, I disconnected it!”

While Trevor eats dinner, Daddy gets a serious workout

We are so not holiday-ish today, we had Mexican food for dinner. Trevor got to try olives and liked them!

After bath and trach change, Brendan was begging Daddy for more flying. He even does the sign for “more” so how can you say no?

Wheeee!

Brendan gets these huge bursts of energy after Trevor goes to bed. He just wants to play and stand and fly and laugh. You can’t rock him, he won’t sit still. So instead of saying we have to rock Brendan to sleep, we say we have to crazy Brendan to sleep. You just play extra silly for a while and then he will just suddenly yawn big, put his head down and be out cold! (And he usually takes Daddy down with him!)
