Year 2 – Week 20 – Day 7

Technically, Wednesdays should be the easiest day of the week. In reality, it was a great day but it was busy and exhausting.

Trevor decided to wake up right after Bill left for the office at 5:45 this morning and he was up for the day. We had to take Brendan to the pediatrician for his next round of his RSV protection shots and Trevor had to ride along. That all went very smoothly!

Trevor says, “bye mom, see you at snacktime”

He loves being outside

Brendan shows off some fancy footwork

He was not happy about having to stop playing to go to the doctor

Brendan has had an awesome day even with getting a big shot in each thigh. The boys had good play time.

Brendan has been watching Trevor eat the letters from the alphabet game and had to give it a try

Brendan wore his speaking valve for 2 solid minutes today! Twice! He didn’t cry at all, he enjoyed getting out some noises. It was quite a pleasant surprise, we will keep working on it every day.
He was happy to get all the attention and clapping!

Year 2 – Week 20 – Day 6 – Post 2!

Some people said that they missed the post from yesterday because I posted the video post so soon after it. There was great stuff in that post, like Trevor giving his brother a kiss! Scroll back!

This was a crazy Tuesday. PT, OT, and oxygen refill meant there were people coming and going all day. On top of a special delivery of yet another feeding pump because we continue to have trouble with his tube.

Brendan had a great morning, a fabulous PT session, and used his “personal mobility scooter” to get all around the living room.

This is Brendan’s newest ‘naughty face’. He purses his lips and makes little kissy sounds when he is up to something.

Trevor decided that Brendan’s medical supplies needed reorganizing

Our secret plan from yesterday was a roaring success. When I finally got Trevor down for a nap, I went outside on the patio and set it up. When he woke up, he had a fun surprise!!

He just decided to close me in the house.

He ran circles around the place, he was so excited to be outside!! He spent almost 5 hours out there today, in and out of the house (mostly out)

Guess who else spent several hours outside?

The dogs even seemed to like our company and hung out close to the gates!

I made reuben sandwiches for dinner and I gave my little helper a glob of thousand island dressing to play with. He just ate it. (and loved it!) He was super hungry after all that running!

I also let him taste sauerkraut but he was less than impressed. He politely removed it from his mouth and put it back on the tray.

While we were scrambling around trying to get through after dinner routine, I noticed that Trevor had picked up a peepee diaper. Sometimes they don’t make it directly to the trash so I thought he just grabbed one of Brendan’s so I took it away from him and threw it out.
Then I looked again.

It was such a full day! I am so happy that the weather was gorgeous, and the boys both had a blast in their new outdoor area.

Year 2 – Week 20 – Day 6 – A year has passed already!?

Today, March 12th, is the one year anniversary of Brendan’s biggest open heart surgery, the Bidirectional Glenn Shunt and Damus-Kaye-Stansel procedure. At the same time, they did a lung biopsy and a bronchial scope. I am just in complete disbelief that a year has passed already.

On March 12, 2012, we drove to the hospital not even knowing if the surgery was going to happen. It was a heavy debate because he was such a high risk case.

I could write all night about the emotions that well up as I made this video of his path from birth to today. I initially selected almost 400 pictures to use and had to whittle it down to 150 to keep it to a reasonable length. We are so proud of Brendan and what a fighter he is. Even having lived through it, I am amazed by this journey.

(sorry about the ad that pops up in the video, youtube put it there for me because of the song that I chose)
