Band concerts

Kayla has been busy this past week! This will be a mostly video post. Feel free to watch as little or as much of each video as you see fit.

Last Tuesday, Kayla played in her regular band concert. She had 4 numbers. Here they are!

“As Summer Was Just Beginning”

“March to Castle Rock”

One funny note: It seems as though middle school music teachers are about my age, and so they are rather fond of having the kids play 80’s music….

“Don’t Stop Believin'”

“Legends of Rock”

Yesterday (Saturday), Kayla participated in “Music in the Parks”. This meant being at school at 7:15AM, driving to Kenosha in a bus to perform 2 numbers for judges, then lunch on the bus as we went to Great America for the rest of the day (yes, we. I chaperoned). There was a little trophy ceremony right before dinner (Kayla’s school took home 3 trophies for choir, 1 individual trophy for a choir kid, and a band trophy), then the kids could eat dinner and stay until 8PM closing time. We got home around 9PM! Fun day for her….I was cold (it was only 55 degrees). Anyway, I got video of the two performances. One is a repeat from the concert, the other is new.

“As Summer Was Just Beginning”

“Bryce Canyon Overture”

She was completely exhausted when we got home – me too!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day to all who read this blog, because I know that we are moms!

Yesterday was Ashley’s piano recital. She is going to tell the story herself, and then I will put in the videos and a couple of photos. So here is Ashley with “The Story of My Recital”.

Yesterday at the recital, I preformed “My Heart Will Go On (Love theme from “Titanic”.),  Let It Go, Beauty and the Beast, and A Whole New World. The pedal wasn’t working so I kept messing up. (I was used to practicing with the pedal because that was how it was written.) Four other people played after me. I was supposed to go last, but one of the players got sick (in her car!) so I had to take her place and go first. After it ended I got pictures with Jim, Great Grandma, Grandaddy, Grandpa, And Kayla. Kayla gave me bunny ears. Then Kayla and I split a cookie with pink frosting and multicolor sprinkles. My feet hurt after walking in my new sandals because they have a three and a half inch heel. Yes, I measured it. I redid my songs at home where the pedal actually works. those were posted on the blog instead.

For those who want to see her recital performances, here are the links:

Her teacher had some things to say about her too!

And here are the new recordings that she wanted you to see!

After her performance, we took a couple of pictures to show that the new high-heeled sandals make Ashley taller than Great-Grandma!
