March 31st – Happy Easter!

Happy Easter to all of our family and friends!

This marks the end of spring break. The girls and I have tomorrow off for Easter Monday, but it is back to school on Tuesday. We are also only 13 days away from Ashley’s birthday. This is a big deal of course!

Spring Break did not turn out as planned, but it was still good. We accomplished many of the same goals. We drove around, we played with a boy cousin, we slept in, we watched videos, we played video games. We just did it in Illinois. One of our days was spent playing with Caleb. We dug out the Little People sets that Kayla and Ashley had loved so much as little girls. We had saved them all, because they are really not “boy” or “girl” toys, and being all plastic means they are durable. We brought over a few things to see what Caleb thought.

He liked them!

He played so nicely for hours with the toys we brought.

So, we dug around deeper and found out bigger box of Little People. We picked up 5 more 58qt storage boxes, and separated the people into sets at Mom’s house. This way, she can pull out a different box each time Caleb visits. He won’t make an overwhelming mess, and the toys will feel new a lot longer.

Here we are sorting out the people, followed by tired girls and 6 boxes of people sets!

Caleb will be a very busy little boy!

Easter Sunday was busy at church. Ashley had class, but Kayla’s grade stayed in the service. It was a good service, although Kayla realized she had outgrown her dresses. We had to make do with the one dress that fit her. Then we realized that she had no tights! So….she wore a pair of MINE!!!!!! Yes, she is getting THAT TALL that she could start raiding my things. Of course, stretchy tights are easy to share. But still!!! Ashley had a new outfit.

We went to Mom’s house for Easter ham. We got to see Aunt Lillian and Grandma. Kayla played clarinet for everyone.

You can really see how tall Kayla is getting. We had to change our arrangement because she was blocking Kevin!

We send out good thoughts to Brendan for good progress with his new challenge to upgrade to a “wireless” version! We send out good thoughts to Gramma for her knee. We send out good thoughts to all of our other family who are not feeling so great.

March 24th – Sickie Chickie

Ashley had a pretty tough night. The fever in her system has her tummy upset, and even though she ate a good dinner, she couldn’t keep it down. She got a bath at 10PM, and we did laundry at 10:30PM. Then she woke up at 5:30AM and got me. Her temp was 104 degrees! I took her to the sick call at our pediatrician’s office while Kayla hung out with Gramma (thank you Gramma!!!!!). The verdict was……..either a nasty respiratory bug or a strain of flu not in this year’s vaccine. The only difference between the two would have been a swab up her nose to test for influenza. We didn’t bother. It didn’t change how I would treat her today. It doesn’t change that until she is fever free for 24 hours, she is contagious and not going anywhere. Unless we get some miracle recovery tomorrow morning (unlikely), then Pittsburgh will have to wait. Good thing it wasn’t airline tickets to AZ – we had considered that for this week off!

Once we got back to Gramma’s house, I ran to Target to pick up a few tummy friendly foods like Phineas & Ferb soup. Ashley was so miserable and cold that she could hardly move her arms, so to eat a small bowl of applesauce she used a straw!! Check out the baggy puffy eyes.
