Week 28 – Day 4

May the 4th be with you, nerds.

Aunt Shannon got an extra full day of Crankopotamus Trevor while I spent the day with Brendan. Trevor’s teething is moving in to high gear now, although there is still no visual evidence of teeth.
He just wants to chew on his washcloth during his bath.

We put wet burp-rags in the freezer for him to chew on too.

Brendan had a day filled with ups and downs. He started off with morning crankiness but then got in to a better mood. See something different in this picture? He has only half of a tube mustache! (the NAVA probe is what is missing)

Brendan thought that his cheek felt so fresh and happy without tape on it that he would pull out his feeding tube too!! The nurse was putting him on the scale and was trying to be careful about pulling on his trach and managing his vent tubing. It was a perfect distraction for his little pinchy fingers to go straight to his nose.
We don’t ever get to see naked Brendan face so I had to take a picture. He got to have his bath and get his face all cleaned up before the tube got put back in and re-taped.

The replacing of the feeding tube pushed Brendan over the edge. The nurses had trouble getting in place and he just had an epic meltdown. He got some Ativan and lots of comforting and he finally settled down.

He was on the Trilogy ventilator for 24hrs, but all day long he was working pretty hard. His sats were excellent, his color was good, but he was having to breathe fast and his heart rate was elevated. He got switched back to the big hospital vent in automode to allow him to rest. Going to Trilogy straight out was pretty ambitious, so in the morning they may try to switch him back and let him get used to it again.
The technology is just not as gentle in the home vent, even with the same settings. It is like going 90 miles an hour in a new luxury sports car versus a 15yr old family sedan. They both get you to the same place in the same amount of time, one is just a lot more fun and comfortable!!

New tube in place, expensive vent reattached, and ready for a nice evening of rest:

Week 28 – Day 3

I am tired tonight!! We started the day with a Trevor routine, with an extra Aunt Shannon thrown in. It must have been too much for Trevor because he passed out in the middle of a bite of oatmeal!

We woke Trevor up for a bath and he entertained us with a new sound he just learned to do this morning. He has been practicing it all day!

Once Trevor was down for a nap, Shannon and I left him with Daddy and we went to go see Brendan. He had been on automode on his vent for 27 hours when we got there and he was doing just fine! They were just waiting for me to get there, and then they were going to try the trilogy ventilator.

He liked Aunt Shannon!

We did a trach change and a full sponge bath and got him all settled before the respiratory tech came to switch out the vent. He was so worn out from his busy afternoon, he settled in for a nice nap and didn’t even notice that they made the switch. He had some agitation this evening, but is still on the trilogy and ready to get a nice long night of rest.

Someone left a big fuzzy puppy in Brendan’s room today. Brendan didn’t seem too interested in it yet, so we brought it home. Trevor loves big fuzzy puppies. He has received a lot of hand me down toys from his brother so far. Brendan will eventually be ready to steal them back to play when he gets home!

Week 28 – Day 2

Trevor had a very very busy day today and we have too many pictures to share.

We started with morning routine: bottle, playtime, oatmeal, bubble bath, bottle, nap. He loves his oatmeal and did not get much on his bib today.

He looks little in his highchair when the tray is on it!

Then Trevor went with me to my office to visit all of his IT-Grandmas. He got a huge dose of “oh the cheeks”, “look at those thighs”, and extra pinches and excitement.

From the office, we went to the hospital to see Brendan. Brendan was having an awesome day. He did so well on the sprints overnight that they decided to just leave him in automode today. Just now when I called to check on him he was still sprinting (12hrs and continuing!).
He was happy to see Trevor! They had a really cute moment where they were smiling at each other and Trevor was making lots of adorable talking sounds.

We put Trevor in Brendan’s nest. He says “seriously bro, you need to get out of here”.

Trevor is captain coordination. His matches the blanket

Trevor thought Brendan was really funny

Brendan thought Trevor was silly

I turned on Brendan’s mobile and Trevor was MESMERIZED. Brendan thinks it’s just more of the same ol’ thing!

I had to reposition Brendan so I had to move Trevor to the end of the bed. He was totally content to just eat the blanket while he waited.

At the end of the visit, Brendan was exhausted

To make Trevor’s day even busier, we left sleepy Brendan and went to the airport to pick up Aunt Shannon. Just another person that wants to smooch on his chunkly cheek.

No comments about hiked up old man shorts!

Trevor is tucked in to bed now, he should sleep well tonight!!
