Week 28 – Day 7

Uncle Jon and Aunt Shannon have to leave early early in the morning tomorrow, so we all took Trevor and spent the day at the hospital with Brendan.

Trevor tried to look his cutest to get all the attention possible. He even has a fancy pair of shoes.

Trevor spent almost 2 hours lying at the end of Brendan’s crib watching the mobile and making silly sounds with Aunt Shannon. As long as someone kept spinning the mobile critters, he was absolutely thrilled and even giggling.

After a while it was too much and he took a nap in his pack n play.

After the nap, he had a quick snack of frog legs

He went a really long stretch without eating and then took that nap, so when he woke, he was feeling really hungry. He drank NINE ounces of milk and then had to let his tummy out to breathe while he had his shirt for dessert.

Brendan had a few spells of discomfort and stress today, but as a whole he had a great day. He felt especially silly.

He loves the bearded one

He is giving me his best “I am innocent” face.

Aunt and Uncle have to say goodbye. Brendan shook on a deal with Shannon that he will be home before she comes back for a visit next month.

Brendan had 2 hours on the Trilogy ventilator. He stressed pretty hard initially and was breathing really fast, but he settled in and met his goal. Instead of trying to transition him straight to that vent, they are working him pretty hard in short bursts to strengthen his breathing muscles. He will have a bronchoscopy next week to determine his long term breathing needs. In the meantime, he is just going to work on getting stronger.

Trevor did such a good job all day with his brother. He had a blast being there and was wiped out tonight when he went to bed!

Week 28 – Day 6

The blog updates keep getting later, it means I am staying up too late! Then I am too tired and can’t even remember what happened this morning.

We started with a Trevor routine that included his solid foods and his bubble bath. I have replayed this video over and over because it cracks me up. Trevor cries when I even mention green beans, then he tries to act like he is sleeping when I try to offer more. (ok he really was falling asleep)

Trevor had some great tummy time today while he video chatted with Gramma. Then he spent the rest of the day alone with Aunt Shannon and Uncle Jon while Bill and I were busy.

Brendan had a really good day looking at his numbers, but in general he just wasn’t himself today. He was squirmy and agitated by something but I never could figure out what, but not mad enough to cry or even look upset. Just fidgety and doing his thing where he keeps turning his head back and forth. The doctor observed it for a while and tried a dose of Benadryl to see if it was itchiness from his trach ties.
His nurse and I did a tip to toe cleanup, baby lotion massage, fresh bag, fresh diaper, fresh trach ties, all new sheets, etc.
I held him for a few hours and he slept very comfortably (and he smelled very good!)

Once he was all settled in bed, he gave me about 20 minutes of “the real Brendan” with his adorable smiles and then just seemed a bit spaced out the rest of the day.

He did about an hour on the Trilogy ventilator, with a different kind of exhale valve to see if it would be more comfortable for him. He did really well on it but they didn’t want to push him with his current level of discomfort and the doctor wanted to be there to observe him when they do more.

The doctors have agreed that another bronchoscopy would be valuable to determine the real need for pressure support from a ventilator. That might happen this week before they go further with sprints and trials, I should know more tomorrow.

Brendan is going to get his 4-month immunizations now that he is far enough out from his surgery. They are waiting for a non-cranky day to get that done.

It was a long day, lots going on, but I can catch up more later, I am going to bed!!

Week 28 – Day 5

I have so many pictures from today, the stuff from this morning seems like 2 days ago.

We started the day out on the patio in the gorgeous weather. (Sorry Gramma, Trevor still is very comfy in his cut-off pajamas! For bed tonight he is wearing the new cute monster ones!) Trevor like Uncle Jon’s beard.

Trevor was fascinated with what Aunt Shannon had to say.

The many expressions of camera face, listening to birds and practicing his new raspberry noise.

I gave Trevor some green beans this morning and he did NOT like them. He shuddered and cringed and made the funniest faces, almost gagging. Fortunately he had oatmeal to help it go down. He ate all the green beans I gave him though, like a good boy.

Uncle Jon got to meet li’l b today. Brendan thought Jon was awesome.

Brendan’s cuteness makes people do silly things

Brendan got another nice thorough washdown again

Brendan spent all night on the hospital vent in automode and had a really comfortable smiling night. But around 3am he spiked a low fever and they had to send cultures again (just safety policy). Because of that, Bill stayed home with Trevor.
This morning he was doing much better, they think his fever is just stress and medication related. They even did some tests with him, turning down his pressure support on the vent to see how he would handle it.
Tomorrow, they are going to try Trilogy again with a slightly different valve configuration and see if he likes it better.

When we got home, cousins Tim and Jess and Eric came to meet Trevor. We got takeout Mexican food (before we even realized it was Cinco de Mayo today) and had a nice dinner outside. Trevor was the life of the party talking up a storm, sitting in his high chair and eating his musical fish.

I can’t believe we didn’t take any pictures with them!

I have photo evidence that someone in this household is losing it.

Brendan’s new toolbox is finally here and put together – no damage this time!

A very long day and a very late update! Bed time!!!
